this is why its important to play at a site with a sportsbook so you can martingale your roll on days like this

i would probably start martingale at like -4 buyins though because losing at poker makes me angry

Lemon has a bankroll that requires him to cash out nominal amounts at irregular intervals. I'm not sure if martingale would be the best thing for him.

idk what exactly you mean by "only losing" but yes basically

that your long term expectation is to lose
like if you play blackjack, you're only losing, even if you win. (unless your not playing the way it's intended to be played)

martingale is basically win incredibly small almost every time you play
but if you play long enough you will one time lose huge

yes it is negative ev, basically what drone said, it's a way of chasing losses/booking a win.

there are different variations of martingale betting "strategies" but for example one is just doubling your bet everytime.

so say you have $800 and want to make $25. you would bet $25 --> win $25. or bet $25, lose, bet $50, lose, bet $100 --> win $25, etc. so assuming your betting on something with close to 50/50 odds like the point total for an NBA game, you'll make $25 unless you lose 5 coinflips in a row.

so in this example it would be about 97% risk-free way to make $25

so 97% of the time you make 2.7% of your total bank roll the other 3% you lose 100% of your roll.
