I know this worked out here but in general is this correct or too light? What if the flop is rainbow? |

Thinking about it I guess this has to be pretty standard and he shows up with an over pair here a lot? |

You played this perfect. Once he calls that preflop 3bet, he has made such a big mistake versus your specific hand that you can easily stack off on any flop and it's +EV
The question is if there is a higher EV play like folding the flop, and honestly once you have invested this much money in the pot it's a question about odds and his range.
The pot is is 3.58 once you bet the flop, and he has about 5.50 behind, which means if he shoves(he didn't do this obviously but I treat his bet as an allin because he's not raise/folding a real hand) over our bet we need to call 5.50 to win around 15, which means we would only need 25% equity to make calling the flop superior to folding
If you think about all the hands he can show up here with it becomes obvious that we have over 25% equity and we are required to call, any flush draw, any str8 draw, sometimes people show up with an overpair, 1 pair here or 2 pair(which we have around 25% equity against the latter).
Sure he can show sets and straights, but combo wise he's going to have the other hands more often
Use equilab to figure out combos and ranges |
