I think I might have messed this hand up on every single street, and would appreciate some help. In a 200bb situation, I've been putting 87s in my 4-betting range and feel very happy about that. First of all, do you think that since we are only 120 bbs deep, I don't need to have much of a 4-bet bluffing range? Like maybe have A2-A5s only and take out all connectors?
Secondly, even against someone 5 betting with only 99+,AQs+, AQo+, I still have 30% equity, which is enough if I could play the hand perfectly postflop. That said, a lot of that equity comes from the times I hit 1 pair and he just ends up with ace-high, though even on boards like 843 rainbow I still have less than 50% equity against his range (and with his range, he knows where he is at better than I do, and might even be able to get off of ace-high). Should I have just folded to his 5-bet even though it was relatively small?
Do you guys agree that raising turn is better than betting river?
Villain is another live pro, but doesn't have the online background that the other has. He is exploitatively nitty (although I'm not really trying to take advantage of this. I've been playing lots of hands with both someone who is a nit and someone who is overaggro, and trying to come up with a system of play where I can play against them both exactly the same way just based off of bet sizing board texture and the hand I hold. Let's call it 'GTO' inspired play style <_< )

hmm i agree with shallower stacks equating to a smaller 4bet range. i think i'd still prefer to call hands like this, as well as A2s-A5s. use A6s-A9s as 4bet bluffs, they can't make 2-card straights
i wouldn't fold to the small 5bet. i don't know how the math would work but i think theres enough stack left to play a hand like this IP
i do not think raising turn is a good idea; we have position, plenty of equity to continue, and implied odds. also, i'd start off with a small bet on flop. i'd prob be betting flop ~90% of the time (any hand with a backdoor+ or pair+) vs a check, esp on this board.
why play completely balanced when you have info on villains? all it does is attempt to break even vs them |

This is fine other than river and I just wanna make two points. This is a pretty dry board in a 5bet pot. Might as well be 22337r if you think about it, not quite but close. Villain may just never be folding after you check back flop or folding period on this runout after preflop action. One of those spots where u just check back river even though you can't win because you know you are getting called.
That said you Should be shoving river here with everything. I like the turn call ip. Don't let him make a cheap bluff or bet fold. Call and force him to make a river decision.
You also need to take this line with some real hands not just ones like this that played out with this level 1 thought process (missed the flop so I check, turn bet is so small I call with anything, ok have to bet river to win here goes) because even though this wasn't your thought process and you had a draw that is kind of what it looks like from villain's pov. |
