how does check back compare to shove in this spot?
V's 3bet range is pretty static, contains a lot of random suited connectors and stuff, he was not folding to 4bets regardless of sizing |

I think there are very few hands he has that your ace-high is ahead of, since you block spades and the 56 straight got there. The jam can't be horrible since your showdown value is about as bad as it could be given the board and the preflop action, yet you have reasonable equity against most hands that call you. So seems like a textbook spot to semi-bluff.
I think once in a while it's fine to check turn, then check-fold the river unless you improve in order to have some drawy hands in your checking range.

He can bluff this hand (gutter, overs, nfd) 100% on the turn and still get to the river with plenty of drawing hands.

also in this particular game where I could care less about balanced flop sizing I would bet closer to pot on the flop since you are going for a 2 street all in. This way you look skewed towards overpairs vs observant players who aren't yet aware of your skill. Also the more you bet flop the more you win on the turn when he folds |

yeah i think i should have bet more on flop, i don't remember what i was thinking at the time, i guess i just wanted a more balanced betting range vs this particular player so went with the smaller sizing, didnt consider turn SPR.
not sure what my checking range looks like here... i'm shoving sooo much (any overpair, most combodraws, sets). my checkback range must be weak as hell. there are just so many shovable hands here, like even as weak as any gutter lol
i played some real money on Full Flush Poker but my HEM expired and PT4 doesn't work on FFP. i'm sort of a HUDfish :S |
