the turn lead is pretty common now but he fires big on the river. I call river most likely. If you didn't fold what did he have?

4 isn't great cause it makes 78 which is a decent part of his range but I still think he has enough bluffs

is a 35 into 115 lead common? I dont even fold overs to that And then slight OB on riv. A way for a fd to see a cheap river? I folded, but yeah basically only 87 and 6x that beats me

That small turn lead when the bottom or 2nd card pairs on the turn first caught on in heads up games and spread elsewhere and now a ton of people do it without even necessarily knowing why they do it. One of the basic ideas around it is that the OOP player improves on that turn more than the pfr because he will have more trips in his range... why exactly that makes small lead optimal i'm not sure, I have some ideas and see reasons it is good but I've never discussed it much with anyone.

Something that just came to me is that it could be a play the OOP player makes with his range to take best advantage of the low card pairing. He can make a small bet on the turn and set his own price with draws, also steal the initiative cheaply to make bluffs on the river, all the while knowing he is protected from being exploited by turn raising because his range (oop player) is actually if not stronger at least more filled with "nut" (trips +) hands that are happy to continue vs any action. The small lead keeps the IP player from comfortably checking behind a lot of his showdown. It may also induce calls in a spot where the oop player would be c/calling a larger bet and thus the OOP player is playing smaller average pots in this spot out of position- can't be bad. Guess its a play that can nullify the positional advantage a little bit.

river is weird, i'd usually look him up the first time, if not just for info (a call should be at worst slightly -ev if villain's game is well balanced)

my guess is his range when he bets river will be 6x, 78, flush draws, maybe some air he floated on flop, maybe 44. if my guess is correct, his bluffs are gonna be very club heavy so we should pick non-club hands to bluffcatch with. also we should probably call less often than fold, since his range appears more value heavy. anyway if we take all our Tx and overpair combos, only about 25-30% of them have clubs in them. we should fold all of those, and also fold some of the other ones?
