why sauce didnt bet the turn i have no clue ...
if i ventured to guess ... i dunno this could be way off because i dont know exactly when this was played or how the games were playing at the time this was played ...but...
as far as the river play goes ... there had to be some weird dynamic where ben though the A was more in his range than it was in steves and after steve raised, ben didn't think steve repped enough of actual value hands, so ben jams thinking steve is turning something ridiculous into a bluff, and steve recognizes ben might think this way and decides to call.
the river shove is a bit more presumptuous than any other play thinking steve both never has anything and he won't read through bens play and call. but they are both obviously very good players and this is just my best guess while drunk. |

sauce can easily rep that he was going for turn c/r on river (given that was a line used in 2008. cant remember) |

i disagree that ben was ever looking for a turn x/r for the reasons that ...
1. the 5 on the turn is a fairly neutral card and didn't improve either players range, so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense ben would chk this turn thinking steve will bet.
2. generally, a strong player, when betting the river, repping a missed turn x/r, will make an overbet.
if he was going for the turn x/r and didn't get it in, it makes the most sense to assume your opponent has a marginal showdown bound hand. to get the most value and rep the widest value range against this hand, you want to overbet everything, putting them in the toughest spot possible wth the majority of their hands. ben didn't do this. |

A little bit too much sense for 2008 imo.
Almost certain Sauce was going for a XR
You think he was going to XC 9 high? or XF an OESD?
People bet wayyy too much IP when checked to in these days, Sauce was going for a small turn XR -> river shove or maybe just a straight shove |

I like that analysis Marshall but people didn't really overbet much those days; certainly not a large % of the times they went for a turn c/r and missed. |

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen | |
