Thoughts? I feel like I completely butchered this hand. 3bet/folding open folding is probably better, and as played calling on river is probably always better. How bad is this shove tho? It feels like a really bad shove in retrospect, but im not sure.. feels like AK AQ bet the turn most of the time? and will most likely check call / check fold river?

not much of a tournament player but here my thoughts

preflop: seems fine to me, i would play it the same. if it was A9o it'd be more of a 3bet or fold, but A9s i like the call

flop: seems fine, i'd bet a bit smaller being IP on a pretty average/dry-ish board

turn: check is fine, given the SPR. betting risks the opponent jamming and folding us off our equity (for example if we somehow have a flush draw, we would not want to bet and face a jam). this might be a spot where i'd check my whole range for balance, simply due to the awkward SPR. this is another reason for betting smaller on flop, so turn SPR is less awkward and we can bet turn small again, then potentially go for a 3barrel.

river: jamming is ok because we should really never be beat. this is kind of an exploitative jam in that we pretty much never have a bluff, but given the fact that we are so rarely beat we should be able to jam for value. not jamming is also ok if we expect opponent to always fold with worse.

tldr: i think ur play overall was good, just bad luck.

ye
preflop I think you're barely deep enough to justify the flat
flop bet slightly less, like 5-5500 or something
I actually like the turn check more than betting, he has at most 2 outs at this point, you have position, pairs aren't gonna call 3 streets of value, and did he really check aq-ak (hands that would call 3 streets) on both flop and turn? unlikely also.

river is a clear shove, never a call. much more likely that he talks himself into calling with any ace than that he has you beat.
