I could come up with some reasons

It has to do with the big pot lead on the turn getting raised more than pot contracting ranges so much

He has plenty of 910 to valuebet while having potentially almost nothing to bluff with if most of his turn bluffs are 9x. (I wonder if you could get a situation where if you locked stefan's turn strat and it was super 910, 9x heavy that you would find a situation where he is betting river with 9x not for value but to balance out 910 and incentivize makeaboiffn to call with 9high straights. Not to straight up just vbet 9x to get called by worse.)

Again, because of Stefan's turn raising range being so strong and with top of that range being balanced by 9x that all gets there on the river and the subsequent strength of the IP river range Makeaboifn will not really need to bluffcatch much at all. He can likely just call his trapped 910 and combodraws with a 9 and it would be enough. Therefore Stefan doesn't really get called by worse than 9x (and he is being trapped by 910 a decent amount).

9T is it very common on the river? There is turn x/r range, turn 3bet range, other turn probe sizes, and river donk betting to consider. all of that chips away at the 9T's in his range. Is very nitty check, i think it reveals that stefan thinks his own range doesn't have any hands to bluff with on river, imo. So i agree with parts of what you said.

Yes very nitty play, not something I would do especially on the fly so I was just spitballing some ideas about the hand.

you are right both of them lose a lot of 910 by the river, I was just coming up with a theory that requires a potentially very wrong assumption about Stefan's range to explain his river check. If he bets most 910 on the flop then yea. Likely it doesn't have much to do with 910 and like you said he simply doesn't have many river bluffs if his turn bluff range is very heavy with 9x.

Makeboiffn probably has a decent amount of his 910o in this line though I think. If he didn't then Steffan would basically be checking back the nuts which wouldn't make sense.
