Is this a bad check-raise? I thought this might be a situation where I am going to get called by a set or re-raised. Or run into AA or KK.

why would you think that before it happens? you're beat by a flopped straight or set and by checking you're giving every other hand a free card, also advertising your hand by showing unusual strength (as opposed to it seeming like a continuation bet with say ak). also you're totally screwing yourself because what does your checkraise actually achieve than dumping more money in the pot without knowing where you're at. just bet and take it down on the flop
