Man, I find it really hard to stop playing or go down in stakes if I lose 2-3 buyins to a bad beat. I still play my A-game even if I lose these few buyins, but once I take more bad beats or suckouts I start to lose control and I can't stop playing. In the past I actually go UP a stake to win my losses back faster (instead of grinding).

What do you guys do or use to help relax or control your game? I've lost 2 buyins before in the first 10 hands and I still want to play. Should I just say fuck it and take a day off ?

Take it from me... Buy a big boxing bag and put thermopane in front od your monitor......

Also gloves come in handy.

Other than that, just gamble away until you have reached your max, lol

I play small sessions. Usually end a session winning unless it's really really bad and I can't control myself anymore (make total spews)(doesnt happen very often anymore). I'm self aware and i am honest with myself If im not happy with a play i made and I start thinking that I'm not playing my A game I immediatly stop. I have no need to try to make it back, there's always later.

I'm always calm when I play.(there has been a couple exceptions) bad beats are just so standard...there's no reason to be frustrated about it anymore..I tell myself I make money off stupid PP fish, can't blame em for being able to suck out on a couple pots

Everytime something goes bad for a certain period of time i always do the same thing. I repeat to myself "oh well at least there is this and that to make me feel better" i go around everything that I have and realize how lucky I am and how those things shouldn't be taken for granted because a lot of people don't have the same luck

just having a bankroll and being able to gamble money as a job is a luck in itself

sure it's really tough sometimes but in the long run it's worth it and negative thoughts is just not necessary and will only attract negative things

just believ that you are a lucky individual and be confident. short term bad results are nothing to be worried about some people run bad for ridiculous ammounts of hands before everything works again, if losing 2 buy ins in the beginning of a session affects you that much, you are simply not a good player and have to work on that which is what makes poker such a great game

fuck I should just sell some of my Pokemon cards, if no one stakes that is what I will have to do - lostaccountLast edit: 16/03/2007 06:26

I'd suggest playing less tables because you get more time to think and improve, tilt less as well as win more money.

whining to people on AIM seems to calm me down, but i know it also bugs the shit out of them.

one day you will lose enough doing these things you do that u know are retarded yet do them anyway that it will hurt to play and you will go for a walk or something.... thats how I learned anyway

Ive had great tilt control lately doing alot of the things loco mentioned. Imo the most important thing to remember is that when you take a bad beat, your actually making money in long term, as long as you get it in as a favorite, the results dont matter at all.
Also, i do many small sessions throughout the day instead of one big long one. Its hard to maintain deep focus for hours on end, i usually stop playing my best after 120 minutes or so. Also, if your in the habit of doing small sessions like this, its much easier to walk away when your playing badly.

u loose while holding quads like 5 times in 6month. U get 1 outterd like 3 times in the same period. Your nut full-house rans to quads for +4 buy-in pot. str8 vs str8 for +5buy-in pot. when u see all these in a short period you'll get used to it. Thats how I learnt No matter what happens to me now I can always say this to myself: I've seen worse

In my opinion, a few people have hit the nail on the head with the "one long session" mindset.

The big downfall for your "recreational" player is he/she can't really understand this. He squeezes a couple hands in before going out to dinner, or after a night partying, or when he's just plain bored. When he gets down a few bucks, he feels the need get it back A.S.A.P. because he doesn't know when he'll have the chance to play again. It's not one long session to him.

We have an advantage over these players, because we know exactly when we're going to play again. Once you start TILTing, what's the difference if you stop now, and if you stop in an hour? A thousand hands off your monthly total? Big-fucking-deal; better than 4 buy-ins. You're going to log in the next day, and have an opportunity to get it back (with a clear mind).

As for distractions: go to the store, rent a movie, play a video game (Company of Heroes kicks ass btw). If you feel the need to gambol, play some micro PLO/HORSE/SnG's.

And loco's right man, there are people starving to death in Africa right now; we really don't have many problems (except you Mexican players )

haha ^_^ put a webcam on him plz or a camcorder and upload it gogogogogogo :D

As for tilt control... I guess it comes with the bad beats. After a while I have noticed I dont tilt as badly as I first started playing because suckouts and coolers are part of the game.

But if you are really having a problem go watch some TV or a moviethen come back to the tables

But you're also pretty bad at poker, yet you think you're pretty good.

That's what I got from you as a forum user, you keep giving out horrible advice and making topics about the most standard shit.

No offense, but you need to work on your poker as well as your 'tilt control' probably.

I don't think I'm good at poker, and never said so. Way to jump to conclusions.

I don't give advice to anybody that plays higher than 25-50NL because I just simply input what I would do because I play at the same stakes.

And I don't really give a shit what you think, really, heh. If you think I'm bad at poker, who cares? I'm here to learn thus the low-stakes.

Please keep in mind that not everyone is playing poker as long as you do, posts like these won't help them, it will offend them. Please keep in mind that most of the people who play poker think they are actually good in it, that's how most of us make money on poker.

Loco as always im pretty much behind you in your opinion. No one escapes tilt, and everyone somehow 'feels' it when they lose a a great amount of money. If you are having a hard time controling it stop playing and try it another time.

I don't like to chat in box other than saying "NH."

One time I took a pretty bad beat, was a 2.5 BI pot and the guy put in all of his chips for a gutshot on turn and I was just like, "WTF ARE YOU DOING? I hope your whole family gets cancer and dies a miserable death in front of you."

Then he replies with some asinine shit like, "I had pot odds, blah blah, I knew what you had, blah blah."

And shit like that puts me even more on tilt because I get super loose-aggressive for him because I assume he's on a draw every hand I'm in the pot with him.

So I don't talk anymore .
