It's hard to say if you're beat. He could have come in with AK with the 2$ bet and simply do a check-raise as a continuation bet to really appear strong. I'm guessing he put you on a mid or low pocket pair since you called his raise. I would personally have folded this hand preflop. Unless you can open the pot and put in the first raise, or have a strong enough hand to reraise preflop you shouldn't get in with a hand like AT. Why? Because if you don't hit it's hard to bluff anyone out since you didn't show any strenght preflop. And if you do hit, lets say top pair top kick, you're afraid of JJ-AA, which would have reraised you preflop had you been the opener... thus you would know to be afraid of them... also, if you hit your Ace, you need to fear AK-AJ... AT is a great hand, but make sure you are the preflop aggressor when you play it, if you get reraised, and call down, you'll be in this passive position again but at least you'll know JJ might be out there and you wont throw down the better hand as often. Playing aggressively like this will also cause people to fear and respect you, they wont want to get into a hand with you unless they have a good hand. And often, because they know you will keep betting at them they will reraise you and big saying... "HEY, I have a HAND" this is great for you because you just fold and don't lose much with your 2nd best hand... hope that helped
