in situations like these you should try to retain control of the hand and bet the turn EVEN IF you're sure he has a flush. bet an amount that you'd be willing to call if u had checked, i.e. i'd bet about 3 to 4$ on the turn here. if you're raised (weak players won't do this with a flush) then you can assume you're behind and lay it down, if you are called, you retain control of the hand, you allow yourself to see a river card that may pair the board under great odds because YOU'RE the one doing all the betting. depending on what falls, you can play the river as such. in this scenario, when a blank falls, i'd check call a reasonable amount and fold otherwise. the key difference here would be the turn play.
often times, people feel that if a scare card falls, they should slow down and check-call for the turn and river. this often puts you in a very difficult situation with a marginal to good hand that, in many situations, is still best. by staying aggressive, you retain control of the hand and avoid difficult decisions on the turn and river. |
