ok lets look at the hand

preflop:

he raises, i 3bet. he flat calls.

this means he definitely doesnt have AK/AQ/88/QQ

he probably doesnt have AA

All of those hands he would probably 4bet.

flop:

he checks, I bet, he calls

because of my preflop read, it looks like he has either nothing and is drawing, is calling with ace high, or has KQ/QJ and is looking to checkraise the turn.

turn:

he checks, I bet, he raises, I 3bet, he calls.

I bet because if he was looking to checkraise with KQ or QJ now, it's safe to bet now. He can't checkraise due to the ace that just came down. And yet he does anyways. This doesn't make sense to me. If he had something like AQ/AK/AJ/AT he would have probably 4bet preflop, and probably bet out on the flop. If he was being tricky with AA, he can't checkraise the turn because I probably don't have an A then... so he would need to bet out.

I really didn't feel like he would checkraise a weak ace.. any strong ace and I 3bet and he loses more money than he needs to. It's a much stronger move for him to bet out that turn if he has a weak ace.

This makes the most logical thing for him to have, in my opinion, a draw. TJ became stronger on that turn. A 2nd flush draw also came. The ace is a pretty good card to attempt to bluff with other draws too, like the heart draw or even KJ/9t.

So I 3bet. If he 4bet I would have folded(though vs some players like neverwin or babyhan I would call the 4bet). He flat called my 3bet, so I was most likely right or he had a weak ace.

River:

A blank came. He either has a weak ace and is going to call a bet from me or has a draw and I can take it down with my pair of fives.

He checks, I check back. Then take it down.

There you go. Step by step analysis. Don't expect it too often :-)

One last thing -

If in a situation, raising is about equally profitable or better, then raising is definitely the best play. An aggressive game will always make more money if you know how to handle your opponent.

nice analysis...
it just seems to me that people on the micro stakes are play much more at random and thus i would be pretty scared to play the hand the way u did even if i had the knowledge background u have....

i guess i dont understand limit, but why would your opponent call your bet on the flop drawing to backdoor outs and 1 overcard?

700 in the pot, 100 to call. That is 7-1 pot odds. K out in this hand probably valued at 2.5 outs, 9 out valued at roughly 2 (9 will very likely win the pot, of course this can change depending on future betting), backdoor flush worth about 1. That is about 5-6 outs out of 47 cards twice. So even his odds to see next card (between 7-1 and 8-1) plus implied odds make the call fine. Keep in mind this is headsup as well, where feel and instinct play a huge role.

plus steal attempts. being oop in limit is powerful if you use check raises frequently

Implied odds, deception, quite a lot of backdoor outs and probably 2 live cards anyway. If he constantly folds the flop when he doesn't hit, he is begging to be run over. It's obviously not a very profitable situation by itself. It is useful to play this way for future hands, though.

One very suspicious player

Very nice hand asdf.

I was very impressed with the way you played (except for the whole sucking out in 3 huge pots when I had you short), lol.

Seriously though, I'm not much of a limit player at all, and was just goofing around last night playing you. I mean, I was trying to play my best, but I shouldnt' have been in the game. I felt very lucky to come out where I did when you left and enjoyed playing with you.

I actually almost quit playing with you after this hand because I could tell you really knew what you were doing, however, I felt like gamb00000ling it up some more

If you had any comments on my play, they would be greatly appreciated.

I think I remember being in tourneys with you and being very impressed by your play there.

ok i remember the session a bit better now

you played much better than I thought you would when you first sat down.

for what you lacked in limit experience(sometimes showed through when you missed an obvious bet or tried a fancy play or bluff that didn't make sense), you made up with impressively solid play.

It also felt like you were learning as you played.
