i like your bet on the flop. sort of a feeler, but no free card; it invites a raise from worse hands and possibly a slowplay from better.
there was a wide range of hands he could have had. besides a set, top or bottom two was likely, 77/JJ/QQ, or j/t suited among the hands you could contend with. if the board paired T's or 9's, i would have strongly considered folding because it fills every possible combination of two pair on that flop whereas, pairing the 8 doesn't (if that makes sense).
the check min raise on that flop isn't going to win me over yet because i'd expect him to be more aggressive with any made hand before he got counterfieted. i'd definitely bet the turn because now you are a big favorite against most hands.
but, if you don't have a solid read that he is bluffing on the river, i'd have definitely folded because he bet back into you for value almost 100% of the time. it would be a very unusual play otherwise. he played that hand awkwardly, typical luck bag. |
