I just got 2 newb questions. ^_^

Why check behind here on the turn?

Wouldn't you pop a bet on the river here with most marginal hands?

I don't disagree that you are beat here a lot. but I think you're also being pushed by a bunch of weaker hands.

TIGHTNESS

i checked behind
1. keep the pot small if hes slowplaying something
2. induce a bet or call on the river from a weaker hand
not standard, just a little different play

thing is if he's slowplaying something, you're going to pay him off almost always on the river by either betting anyway once he checks to you and folding to a c/r (or possibly paying off on an innocuous river) or he'll lead the river and you'll call like 90% of rivers anyway. however if you bet thet urn and he has a set he's pretty much always c/ring you there and you can let the hand go, and you get paid off by 9T/89/J9/79/JJ and all the other hands you're ahead of for at least that bet, and if river is harmless you can get one last street of value. i think betting the turn >>>> checking

well bet/folding the turn is the same as checking the turn and calling the river, but i get a showdown if i check the turn so i cant be bluffed(unless he check raise bluffs but thats unlikely)
anyway, not standard just a different look

no it's not the same because you're giving free cards to draws that will not call a river bet unless they improve, giving Tx a free card to make 2pr, you say you "get a showdown" but going to showdown doesn't mean that you succeeded in the hand or something. goal isn't to show down your hand nor to not get bluffed, goal is to win as much money as possible, i.e. maximize EV. turn check is inferior no matter which way you look at it, unless villian is a loose cannon and will c/r the turn with a huge range that includes lots of hands that you have beat
