if they spike trip 8s and you have a lesser hand than KK, say 55, and all you have is middle pair, you have an easier time folding. raising with the best hand pf does NOT mean it's more +ev than raising with a greater range of hands because you're much more easily trapped and it's much easier to milk you postflop

not to mention it's easier to predict your hand as well

and you'll almost never get value out of sets if you don't raise small pps pf

i would check the river if i cont bet on the flop, and a flop like that is extremely safe to cont bet on because it's unlikely that any of those players connected with a board like that, you have to keep flop texture in mind

checking the flop is ok but i think that betting is definitely the best play on a flop of that sort

obviously if you get called you'd check the turn and frankly i would be inclined to check the river as well because if somebody called the flop they either have 67 and will not call a bet, have an 8, or a middle pp like 66 or 77 and will not call a bet on the river

however as you played it you made a TERRIBLE fuckin river bet of $1 into $3. your opponents will put you on an ace high because of your pf raise so only a weaker ace or an 8 will call you, so i would bet $2 or more into that pot because the ace is what i was looking for, and i want to get a call from a weaker ace, if somebody slowplayed an 8 and minraised i will pay him off and if somebody slowplayed an 8 and raises big on the river i will probably be able to get away

feel free to post the hands you think are bad and if you think weaktight is defined by checking a river with TPTK then you're a dumbass, i explained why checking the river would be best if i continuation bet on the flop because only a better hand will call/raise and a worse hand will check behind and i will win the pot so it is -EV to bet on the river, there is pretty much no way i can put him on an ace high like A9 or AT, MAYBE A5 would call the river if he called the flop but that doesnt make up for the number of other hands against which a river bet is meaningless, and at NL25 i do not have to worry about 67 or a medium pair trying to make a play on me on the river, and i'd probably call a medium sized bet anyway

you're a dumbass if you think a small pp is going to call on an ace river, ace is the ultimate scare card in a raised pot so you're only getting called by an 8 or a weaker ace because of the flop and turn action. if he has an 8 boo hoo pay off his minraise and if he has an A you just won an extra $2 and if he folds you win the pot who cares

well sir chances are that ace king high is good on a board like 588 its pretty intuitive that most of the time nobody has a 5 or an 8 or a pp like 66 77 99 TT and you can win the pot on the flop with a decent bet
