I generally don't play as aggressively in this spot. |

I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance, by running away from the scene of an accident. | |

Haha.
Just look at the line in a vacuum.
That probably doesn't help either, though, as you have no idea how aggressively I play usually.
Bah.
My main concern is that I'm overplaying the hand and only getting calls from 8x, QQ-AA, Jx. Maybe that's an indication that my aggression levels in general need to be higher. |

I think u should do this line with an 8 to get called by a J or an over pair. Doing this with naked J is actually bad specialy on the river cause if he shoves u have to call and he is probably is going to shoved after calling the turn. After the turn his range is J9/JT/QJ/KJ/AJ/QQ/KK/AA/(and lets say a slow played 8 around %50). I think u r behind against that range and if u r not its still REALLY marginal IMO to seeking value there on the river OOP.

how aggressively u should play the hand is also a function of how bad/aggr/stationy your opponent is. |

Of course, yeah. I'm comfortable adjusting my lines against opponents with clear weaknesses, I'm more interested in how I should be playing this type of hand against an opponent that seems solid, but whom I don't have a good read on yet.
I also agree with capaneo's post, given a reasonably solid opponent. I'm fine with my line if the flop were more draw-heavy, but I guess I should be playing pot control / bluff-catcher on a relatively dry board like this one a high percentage of the time. |
