I think you can make arguments either way for 3BB - 4BB. I'm experimenting with opening 3BB lately, mostly to keep the pot smaller and improve my post-flop play. |

i really don't see the point, you'll just get to play AA in a multiway pot more often than not by raising 3bb |

Well, AA, and 22, and T9s, sure.
Are you suggesting 4BB from UTG and UTG+1, and 3BB elsewhere or something? |

I was more asking for your reasoning.
There are plenty of folks who believe that it's best to raise *smaller* the closer to UTG you are to keep pots small when you're OOP.
I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying your suggestion to raise larger UTG and UTG+1 needs some type of argument to back it up, else it's just another opinion among many...
Personally I feel like either amount is fine in 6-max, assuming you're first to open. 3BB gives you more room to maneuver with pre-flop raises, and encourages most post-flop play if you're flat-called. It's also a nice amount if you raise fairly aggressively, as getting 3-bet will be less painful. |
