i dont like raising preflop here since its unlikely you fold them out and you will be OOP with a low pair vs short/half stacks (assuming the short stacks are standard 50vpip dudes) |

ok
though I think that checking can be ok in some circumstances:
if one of the villians is really calling crap pf (>60%) and calls flop, regardless whether he hits (those people play on 50nl is my experience), then I would narrow my pf raise range, because:
1. If I want to play it harder (pf raise), I have to play it hard on flop and turn too, which is dangerous with a low pair in my hand imo.
2. when I hit, I will be paid off by this player anyway
