I find myself in this situation quite often.
I'm so afraid of someone bluffing me out of a pot, that I'll throw blocking bets out there in places just like this.
What do you guys think? His check on the flop really messed with me throughout the rest of the hand.

I'd either bet the flop, or if you check the flop, i'd also check the turn, and if he checks behind on the turn you could try a small valuebet on the riv, i'd also probably call a bet on the turn after checking |

it depends on how he plays, he just flat called your raise with QQ, scare card A hits on flop. Would he bet only with overpairs? You might have been able to have won it without showdown with strong bets representing you had an A |

The way our table was moving chips around, I wouldn't imagine anyone slow-playing an overpair PF like that.
I had a relatively strong image at the table, and I think that -- with the strength I showed PF -- I may have been able to buy the pot at the end. I don't know, I guess I didn't have the cohonas to make a move out of position right here.
My question is more related to the bet I made at the end: What is the actual value to this kind of mini-bet? Is a check-fold better? I guess I was ~50% sure my hand was good.
In the longrun, would a check-fold be more profitable than a small bet at the end? |
