Meh, this is a pretty tough spot to be in, simply because you are oop. I would call that re-raise, and check the turn. If he bets again on the turn, just take a while to consider: The only hands you're really beating here are AQ (unlikely for him to have, since you hold 2 aces already), JJ, and KK. KK would have gone all-in on that flop (probably) to make any Ax hand fold. JJ would most likely check the turn and river for a cheap show-down (probably fearing you hold AQ/AA/KK/QQ) OR would bet weakly on the turn for information on what you hold and check the river. 44 and 88 are possible set-holdings as well, and must be considered. Any hand containing a 4 or an 8 (which isn't 44 or 88) would not have raised from UTG, I assure you.
So you can basically conclude that if he bets strongly again on the turn, he is either holding QQ, 44, 88, or he is bluffing with JJ/any other random crap. Since it is the first hand of the tournament and you have no reads on this guy, folding is the safest play you can make (as hard as it is to do). |
