should I have tried to get trappy on the flop and checked to try and induce action?

Yes you check. If he has a mid pair you want him to spike his set so you can stack him. He never has an Ace so cbing in FR means he folds like 100% of the time unless he has a 6 in which case checking is the same result imo.
