i hate that check on the river! good thing he did have flush or he'd have prob checked it down and you'd have lost some profit not value betting! |

Chris you got very lucky on the river, playing a set against a suited board out of position is treacherous at best. And to VdP, the check-raise was a good move. If his opponent was on the flush draw, he missed on the river and hes not going to call a bet anyways so ... no value there. If his opponent has already made the flush, then chances are all the chips are destined to go into the middle with how reckless Chris is playing.
I don't want to go into a tirade about the intricacies of value betting, but in this case where Chris clearly has the best hand, value bets aren't going to make him any profit. Value bets are mostly made when you don't have the best hand, but may be called by a worse hand and, ultimately, extract what your hand is worth if you are indeed called by the worse hand. |
