He thought you're trying to bluff, represending a flush. Since you didn't bet out on the flop, that's the most likely scenario, more likely than a slowplayed ten. So given the fact that he had 4 outs to a full house, plus the chance that you were actually bluffing with the flush on board, I wouldn't say this was a "idiot call" on his part.
