did i commit a sin by slow-playing the house, and is that why i got punished?

no you did not commit a sin but i think you should have bet. You are in position and he has shown he is strong by calling your raise. If you were out of position and he had raised you, you could call and hope to check raise turn.

IN this situation, you should bet turn for value and to continue building a pot. On the turn u have 4.43 remaining. If you check turn if might be difficult gettin all the money in. But on the turn, you can actually fire 1.5 ish even tho it is a small bet because you will only have 1.9 left on the river. Villan is probably strong on flop so he surely cannot laydown getting 2.333 to 1 on turn. And on river he will be getting a laughable 4:1.

phil hellmuth is genuinely a stupid person and he does not understand poker very well at all - [vital]myth

also turn is pretty blancos (because if he has draw he doesnt care if board pairs, its 2nl) so if he calls big raise on flop, he probably also calls bet here. and his range after flop call is really strong imo, no need to let him draw because he is willing to play big pot as it is,
