EntSC   United Kingdom. Mar 05 2009 21:35. Posts 7 Hey everyone - I've just started, so wondered if I could get any advice. Was I unlucky here, or did I royally screw up? The guy I was betting with had chatted to me about a previous hand where he'd made me fold when he had 55 and I had 99 (with a J, 10, 6 flop and no turn or river). I figured that would mean he thought he had me rattled which meant it was less likely he had something. Cheers Ent

Repusz   Hungary. Mar 05 2009 21:46. Posts 1033 Don't min3bet preflop ever, make it like 0.36. And if it is less likely he has something, what is the point of shoving 2x pot on turn? Your hand needs no protection, and he only calls a huge bet like that with a hand that probably beats you more often than not. It is good to get this in in a 3bet pot (after a decent preflop reraise) but bet less on turn so that his worse hands can call and shove river. When you shove like that on turn you fold out most hands you beat.   Last edit: 05/03/2009 21:47

EntSC   United Kingdom. Mar 05 2009 21:58. Posts 7 People have said my bets are low quite a few times. I started out putting in 50 per cent of the pot, now I'm up to 100 per cent. I expect this is covered in all the books etc - I've read the beginner articles (by Jelle) and I'm about 100 pages into my first Poker book, but what kind of a bet is not a minimum? Should I have bet 200 per cent of the pot pre flop, rather than 100 per cent? Sorry if these are really obvious questions! Thanks Ent
