his 3bet = too small, if he goes to 6 i fold, 5 = way too little imo

dryath   Australia. May 29 2009 03:24. Posts 1317

it is still not profitable for u to set mine here, ur still putting in 1/10th of ur stack to hit a set like <12% of the time, and ur just gonna be check/folding 90% flops, and u can't really float this oop even when u get a 2 2 2 board imo. so this is just burning money really

ok, thanks

i dunno... against certain villains their preflop minreraising range is so transparently the premiums that you would always want to call of the extra $3 (not 1/10th of your stack, mind you... the $2 raise earlier is a sunk cost), just to get paid off on your sets nearly every time.

You both make good points.

dyath is right and is the right approach vs lighter 3 bettors.

collegesucksis also right and if the villain has a really tight 3 betting range then I don't mind calling here because you have massive implied odds and your hand is super easy to play post flop.

Thanks for the replies guys. First time I've seen him 3bet but it wasnt in that many hands. If he 3bets light its a pretty obv fold but I was leaning towards him having a decent hand which ultimately factored into me calling. Glad to see that I was kinda correct in one aspect but probably wrong vs other villains.

you see these players who play like a 45/2 game and they min3bet you... i think it's profitable to just call them with a ridiculously wide proportion of your opening range in order to flop 2p or better and stack em

Agreed fully

i dunno though honestly it seems small when i eyeball it, but in nl200 this would be like uhh, a $20 preflop call, and that seems enormous, the type of calls i am making typically when idiots min3bet me pre are like when i iso them 2-->8-->14, if they go to 20 its much harder for me to call without a damn good reason. so im gonna backup dryath here :O

but its really super gay that he 2 outed you

hmm yeah i see your point. 6bb seems like a lot to call and you probably would not call a 6bb open with 22. but then again if you were certain his range was like JJ+/AK (as it becomes clear with certain fish when they 3bet you like this), it should be +ev to call 6bbs to win ~100bbs???

i mean even if you factor in losing with your sets, you're still getting 16 to 1 odds to flop and win. it's gotta have at least a slight positive expected value, which makes it better than folding.

Guys the villain 3bet an utg raiser. Hes almost always super strong, implied odds are huge, calling pre is std.
