this is a spew, never try to get him off a top pair especially not when his kicker can be a flush draw or a gutshot straight draw
in this situation on the turn, you are supposed to say "well i cant get value from anything, so my plan in the hand now is to check back, maybe suck out, maybe call a bluff on the river." its highly likely that he folded QK or AQ or AK or any combination of A9 A8 K9 K8 Q9 Q8 that had a gutshot or diamond going into the river.
you had the best hand 95% of the time here, a river bet is bad because he can never call + you win the pot, if he calls you will lose unless he is completely on mad donkey tilt
in that sense maaaaybe betting the turn is okay because you beat 88 as well, and a ton of those drawy combos that im saying, but even then, i feel like its still a "check back and bluffcatch on the river" because vbetting with 3rd pair is very iffy |
