Shouldn't the reg actually widen his range here then since your range is really wide and by calling the fish might call also, and by 3 betting he can potentially collect your $24 and/or keep the fish in the pot?

If hit set, lead out to get value from fish. If board comes 232r, lead out to get value from fish and make you fold your 6 overcard outs. Can sometimes c/c too depending on stuff like how often you c-bet here. I think it's pretty +EV to call here IMO but I have no idea what those games are like. I agree if we're purely setmining this isn't very +ev but nor is any other spot when we're purely setmining.

This is a very standard preflop call in my opinion. And we have 77 not 22, there is a difference. You don't play 77 for setmining value purely to a single preflop raise.
