with 98o you dont flop near enough to make it very profitable. + you often need to see a turn or/and river to make your hand, which will cost you more, wheras a pair will hit a set or not.

And on a flop like this you don't get it in that good as you might think. If he is that tight as you say, he has either set equity or AK.

yeah it's prob better with 89s.
But I don't mean exactly this flop, I mean anything that will beat an overpair i.e. flop 2 pair, straights, trips etc. I just felt that a lot of the time I have huge implied odds.

The implied odds aren't as great as you think and you don't flop well enough often enough as you think for it to be profitable really. You don't just need to flop well to stack him. You need him to have an overpair which won't always be the case. More likely than not it won't be.
Just fold stuff like this.
