hi guys,

I swear i read someone writing something about this, but i cant seem to find it anywhere. Basically it was about, you can drink caffeine as normal on a day to day basis for x days, then you have to take y days off so that your body doesnt become dependent. Has anyone got any info on this? - links to articles or studies etc would be great. I tried googling, but not really having much luck on finding this

Thanks everyone, hope you're all crushing it at the tables in 2012

I read on slashdot that there is an app to help you maintain optimum caffeine in your bloodstream
"Two doctors at Penn State University have developed Caffeine Zone, a free iOS app that tells you the perfect time to take a coffee break to maintain an optimal amount of caffeine in your blood — and, perhaps more importantly, it also tells you when to stop drinking tea and coffee, so that caffeine doesn't interrupt your sleep."

I have not drank coffee in 9 days now. I drank coffee every day at least 2 cups for past 15 years. Its been hard ! lol But I really had to as I was drinking way too much coffee per day (6-8 cups). Gone cold turkey, and its been good. I have had a cup of tea every other day, but going good. Gotta say, I do feel like I dont need coffee. I drink so much more water now. Feel so much better already! I read that it takes 21 days for your body to re adjust to having no coffee, so I am aiming for that, and then I cna just have the odd coffee when I am out. Thats the plan anyway!

Ive been toying with quitting coffee for a while now, Ive quit for a week or so here and there and didnt feel any withdrawal symptoms except maybe being a bit sleepy the first few days. The problem is tho that unlike cigarettes coffee actually tastes good so even getting past the addiction part you still like and enjoy coffee. I guess maybe limiting it to 1-2 cups per day cant be too bad.

I've never really had any issues with caffeine dependence. It obviously exists but I think a lot of it is in peoples' heads. I, too, have scaled down the coffee a bit, specifically after lunch and at night and substituted water and green tea and am happy with how that's going. Also, can switch from xtra bold iv's to more mild stuff here and there. Or you can just say fuck it and scale up to the point where you can slam an espresso and enjoy a nap.

re: coffee app

I heard about that. Sounded interesting. I think it's better just to know your own tolerance and dosing and act accordingly though.

Cycling coffee the same way i'm cycling of my preworkout supplement N.O. Xplode 2.0 which has the same amount of caffeine as 2 cups of coffee per serving. I do 3 months on with the supplement and 1 month off, and I guess I'm going to cycle off coffee the same way. I usually drink coffee on the same days I workout also so I end up consuming the caffeine equivalent of 3-4 cups of coffee about 5 days a week.

When I began my first cycle off phase I would be more tired for a longer period of the beginning of the day and slept more, but who knows, could just be like a placebo affect.

I don't there's any legitimate source that will say coffee is actually bad for you, I would just cycle off any kind of stimulant to give your central nervous system a rest and to be able to become sensitive to the substance again. Maybe do 3 weeks on and 1 week off or just drink mon-thurs, I dunno

There's an interesting article about coffee I read lately on lifehacker - http://lifehacker.com/5585217/what-caffeine-actually-does-to-your-brain

I think my body ignores caffeine or something. I have no problem drinking mountain dew before bed or coffee or w/e, but I still sometimes drink it when I'm feeling tired. I think a lot of it is mental insofar as how much you "wake up" because of it.

You guys should really look into Caffeine pills. Caffeine and coffee in themselves are not bad for you at all, and many studies suggest that they're actually pretty healthy. It's the sugar & creamers people put into coffee that are really fucking awful for you.

Lately I've had 1 small cup of coffee in the morning to get me going... then after that take 1-2 caffeine pills throughout the day depending on how my schedule looks. Generally if i'm going to train or work out hard I'll take the 2nd caffeine pill.

Here's a really good guide to caffeine.

Funny, I have never been a coffee fan, but lately I've grown more and more fond of it. I don't think I'll ever become addicted though, I just don't drink enough of it.

I take caffeine pills. 60 pills for $6.00 and they are double what a cup of coffee has so I break them in half. In other words, I pay 5 cents for my fix of caffeine. I facepalm when I see people buying 5 hour energy or other energy drinks for $2-3.
