Tutz Perm Banned

I was the one who banned him, and no, he wasn't banned for that post, but for his general history.

Enough is enough, when you are asked to stop and you are doing exact opposite, you can't expect anything else. Six previous bans/warning is way longer then I should have waited before taking that decision anyway.

but neither of them are in the area even close to deserving perma bans imo. the other regular users that got perma-banned were people like pitf who were just total cancers on the community.

everyone has their place imo. tutz posts worthwhile stuff. someone like huhu who probably deserves a ban is at least funny when he does it. in between his garbage tom makes really good posts. bilat posts tons of recent news. meh, i wouldnt ban anyone at this point

We are not going to keep on banning him with smaller bans forever.
He was asked to stop posting in certain matter, he got warnings on his account, he got short and then long duration bans on his account. Despite all this he still thinks he is allowed to do as pleased and even more - he started provoking mods to prove that he can indeed do so, since some people like him.

This won't ever happen.

I appeal the decision for a permaban and request a review of the case. its not a secret that long time posters of the community are given leniency for some posts. tutz is not one of those. he trolls almost every thread he posts in (has like a 90% troll to real post ratio) and has neither done nor contributed anything of substance since he joined lp (save being made fun of by most people and having a weirdly funny laugh) so he doesnt deserve said leniency.

people are complaining about tough moderation (which in actuality is maybe 3 bans in a few months?) and about lp dying. the truth, i think at least, is the increasing general sentiment that trolling all the time is good for lp. the current state makes it really hard for new posters to come into the community. all that said, if you think truly tutz is a good poster and an integral part of the community we can look over it all.

i thought tutz shouldnt have been banned at first then i read over his last 100 posts and im firmly behind it. whenever you look over 100 posts from someone you get a really good idea of how helpful they are to the community.

Here's a suggestion which I find most helpful to everyone - "Retard Bin" ----> Joe Rogan Board has one, it has all the most retarded, troll infested posts and members safely in one Category. Those who wish to see stuff like that should check that category with no clear subcategories. Obviously people who just pick fights with anyone or just post random uninteresting bullshit all the time gets a perma ban, but those who are just silly, sometimes funny or just slightly obnoxious can get their LP fix and site gets some kind of activity. It's a reputation based system where you can vote up or down until a guy gets a "pink" and gets sent to that board. Hope this helps because simply banning silly people hurts the site somewhat.

Funny thing is I talked with Tom on MSN and told him he will get a warning and asked him to stop posting for Tutz, he said it's no problem - Tutz was posting from multiaccounts previously anyway, so putting Tom's account at risk here is done with premeditation, as he did that to avoid getting banned again.

'Die Howard' stopped being funny when it was being posted randomly in every thread, irrelevant to FTP case or not, every day, all day long.

I banned you for 1 day to calm down since, even I don't know why, you are obviously posting in heat of emotions. If you don't like moderation you can bring it up to Nazgul and Meat, as they own the site.

Bilat had 2 previous accounts that are perm-banned and had over 15 bans in history - as PoorUser mentioned it was overlooked by us in the beginning as he completely changed his behavior and started posting valuable contest, other way his multi-account would have been closed before use.

I joined this site mostly because I was acquainted with Nazgul/joy from a SC1 clan. I've never acted out of line to receive any warning nor ban in my last 6 years of stay. I've contributed in many many strategy threads often as I can. I do not get any benefits from discussing strategies besides self pleasure.

I'm also an active poster on 2p2. I don't contribute anything for the community. Only threads I take part is the ones that benefits me(transfer thread, sportsbets and communicating with regs in reg thread). I've learned most of my poker from lurking 2p2 strat threads. I yell "die howard" on almost all my posts. Mods on 2p2 simply edit my posts or give me infraction if they think I've went too far. My infraction is only at 30% and haven't received any bans in my life.

Few weeks ago, I got banned for saying "die howard" from LP. Second ban being for 7 days. I understand wishing death upon someone is wrong but receiving 7 day ban felt too much. It made me feel that I may be contributing too much in a wrong community. Maybe this is what others felt when they left this site.

^ "Die Howard" would probably be the only thing I'd post if I had half the money you had on there. Die Howard was still funny to me so I was quite sad when that thing went away.

LP has been around 6.5 years. in those 6.5 years there have been 1080 bans or basically one every 2nd day which isnt that much when you consider how much traffic this site gets.

I think a lot of people misunderstand one thing: by giving warnings and bans we are pointing at posts/behavior and say: "this is not right".

I never knew how 2+2 operates (never got even a warning there), but we usually don't ban people before they have any warnings - of course there are some exceptions where we want to make a stronger point, but still mild enough for users to understand the decision - that's why we implemented 1 day bans just a month or two ago.

You contribute a lot, I respect you as a poster, I wasn't also the one to ban you there, but that doesn't matter - the case is, you were banned for just 1 day for 'Die Howard' post, yet after the ban was lifted you continued posting the same stuff.
Why would you do that?

Bare in mind that we try to be as objective as it's possible (of course everyone has a personal point of view on that matter), and we treat everyone the same when it comes to 'faulty' behavior. Best example? Take Baal for that case, I don't think anyone can argue that he is a core user of the site (almost 50k posts) that had insane contribution into community in every matter. However, he lost his moderator rights at some point and even got banned.

That's also a case here, I don't understand how people can justify, for example, BIlats last post because "he contributes to the community" or Tutzs continues provoking of mods and trolling because "they like him". That's not how it works.
Bill Gates donates billions of dollars to the Third World help, he probably saved thousands of human beings. If he were to go on the street and kill 10 random people, should we justify his actions, because he saved 10 000 times as many as he killed? Of course I'm exaggerating a ton here, but I hope you get the idea, even when comparing such two extreme cases as posts on internet forum and human life.

- I agree with them both putting higher priority into TeamLiquid. They did the same thing with LiquidPoker, back when it was first launched. The moderator group at TL wasn't as good once LP was launched, cuz the old Starcraft 1 players who were moderators and old Starcraft 1 players who were posters switched over to poker, which took a lot out of how fun it was to participate at the website.

Once again, the 2 website owners are focusing on another project, which was their original baby, and not being active in their 2nd baby.

- As for the bans, I registered at LP in November 2005 and was active for 1 year at least, before I stopped playing poker and focused on other stuff. I started being active in November/December 2009 when I moved back to USA and haven't been banned. I think the reason I haven't been banned yet is because I know what I want from LP and what I'm here to offer, and so I just focus on that stuff and not on other stuff.

I think I have an idea of the position Tutz is in. I was banned from TL back in 2003-2004 by Nazgul. I was immature at that time, and after I was banned I took some time off to just read the website and relax a bit from posting, I guess you can call it "cold turkey". I made a new account and made sure to think before I posted things, I had to manually edit so many posts because I knew it was immature or too mean, but I did it anyway. Overtime I grew up and didn't post that much dumb shit anymore.

I think this relates to Tutz in the sense that he's apparently immature, and needs to take some time off from the internet, (I think I mentioned this in one of his recent threads), then make a new account and start thinking before he types stuff. I don't even see most of the stuff he posts cuz it's not in my section of the website, but I still know he has issues that needed to be worked out before he comes back.

As an American, I quite like the freedom of speech. And I'm fairly certain the founding fathers know a little more then the LP mods, a community has a way of filtering out the idiots on their own.

Perhaps with the zero accountability of the internet there should be some bans, but It should be for VERY extreme cases when involving a long time user.

Imo your not really making LP a better community by banning people for such comical things, we are poker players and gamers, this is not something we haven't seen a million times before. If someone makes a smart ass comment or posts a bad pic I don't think we really care.

I know black Friday considerably lowered LP's traffic, but are these mod bans really helping? how often does this happen on 2+2? Imo the mods shouldn't be there to police the forums, they should wait until someone complains and then take action, if no one complains then stay out of it and save yourself some time. If the LP were to become incredibly big this would be the only viable option anyways.

Perhaps you should look at more successful forums and consider what it is your doing differently that might be having a negative effect on LP. Perhaps a Vote system that allocates the more popular topics to the top of the forum would be helpful.

Perhaps the fact that the mods go through and look at the persons last 100 posts is what gives them such a bad picture of the people they ban. I for one rarely looked at tutz forum posts and mainly just his blog. To me and many other LP users he was simply a poker newb with a good blog and some funny posts inbetween. Not the forum terrorist the mods seem to think he is.

I think it was the right decision. I read tut'z last post from TT and the whole "I don't obey, people don't tell me what to do" is just a ridiculous childish behavior. He needs to grow up. Just because traffic is decreasing, should it be no moderation at all?

It's hard where to draw the line - like always. But if a poster gets warned several times, temporarily banned several times, and so on, why is he not learning? The attitude "I'm gonna keep doing what I always do no matter what they say" is not rebellious, it's just infantile.

I have a hard time understanding people that saying our moderation is too strict, if we go one step looser this would be 4chan. Defending someone's actions who posts gross pictures comparable to goatse on the forums is beyond me. The only reason this wasn't a perm is because he contributed a lot lately.

AndrewSong - I did most of the "die howard" bans. I personally don't care about how much someone hates howard and wants to kill him, man you don't want to know how much I hate him myself. Spamming LP in every thread is not going to help and is only ruining the forums. It simply has to stop. Just put it in your quote or something, I don't care. The one days are the lightest punishment that can be given so that's why they were given. I guess this could have been communicated better, though I figured it was self explanatory. The 7 days was given cause the instant you got your posting rights back you posted the same thing again. What else did you expect that could happen?

I got banned after hevad khan insulted me and i retaliated (he made a couple of paragraphs saying why jermey lin was lucky etc. and i basically demolished his reasoning in 2 sentences stating facts)... after that i stopped posting on here. I'm not about to argue my point of view ever again, to be insulted by someone with an ego so small they have to say "stfu you dont bet on sports your opinion doesnt matter". Then i give em a little taste of their medicine and I get banned but they dont.

Tutz - seen him troll but ignored most of it and havent seen anything offensive, but i didnt check his last 100 posts like daut did so idk

Bilat seem to be contributing a lot more than not (I don't really read his posts, since they're all serious and about propper topics, not my cup a tea xD but not hating lol), so a little torn, but I do agree with the mods that a picture like that deserves some whipping. I still can't stomach picture like that myself, so that generally takes away 10 minute of my smile.


Tutz I feel is a reliable and awesome friend to have irl, I like the chap, but he doesn't seem internet savy, but he's trying real hard at it, and he's kinda miss-trolling, not doing it right. And I can see how that can rub people the wrong way, especially by provoking mods lol, but that comes back to him not having much online intelligence xD

Still a bit torn, but I'm all for giving him more chances lol


And about the people who have contributed a lot, like if Tom gets a 7 day ban, you're doing something wrong, not telling you how to do your job, or run your site. But the way I look at it, if someone really contributes, their stock in the site, for the community, the emotional pleasure he gives to people is increased, so his bank account with the site gets a deposit.

If he keeps deposting for days, weeks, years, he should be up several millions by now, so by being really dumb. Let's say he puts up a picture of his weiner close to a guy's mouth, as a dare being drunk while some farm animals are being raped in the background. That's okay, but only since it's him, he might lose 100k on his account, get a warning, but banning is to rough.

But if Tutz does that, instaban lol

I try to be as consistent as possible, however it's impossible to browse throu every post on the site ( especially when we are talking about posted hands in hand box and comments there ). If any user have concerns regarding other people they should just contact one of the mods.

Ok I suppose I will weigh in real quick

1. Bilat's long temp ban is totally justified. I browse LP in public places and on public computers at times, and that was not a NSFW thread. That was seriously out of line.

2. Banning engage is too much IMO. He is weak-trolling in a blog, blogs are places the community largely recognizes as free-for-alls (outside of NSFW stuff).

3. I think repeatedly temp-banning is more appropriate and will stop tutz' or others minor-but-unwanted/negative behaviors eventually, assuming that temp-banning is as easy as 3 or 4 clicks. For the specific issue of repeatedly harassing new posters, repeated 2 week bans seem alright. You can just blank-edit+2week ban posts like the one that tutz' got permabanned for IMO.

4. Honestly if you look at my, or a lot of other peoples' last 100 posts/comments at any given time, there will be a ton of 'junk posts'. I and these other people contribute to (and receive from) the community nonetheless. How else do you think myself and others end up with thousands and thousands of posts. This type of small-commenting is a natural part of communication in group settings as far as I can tell.
