* Learn a new language - preferably something main stream
* If your planning to specialise in medicine, research into that specialty and into common problems encountered in that specialty and the current fixes (if any) availabe
* Get a casual/part-time job to carry you through uni - if required.
* Budget travelling 2k will probably last you like 4 weeks in Thailand? Good experience and real eye opener if you haven't been there.
