Haircut is completely fine imo.. Some people look better with really short hair.
And to people saying that shoes isn't important to the outfit etc and that the shirt draws all the attention. It's not really true.

^Ton of nice shoes here, nice brogues/loafers is mandatory for the pub/dinner/citywalks/casino and w/e you're dressing up for. It's so easy for men especially for people who doesn't have to bother about styling the hair etc. Just get well suited pants/shirts and a pair or two of nice shining shoes and you're set :D

if your girlfriend has a friend that really loves shopping and fashion and would be sincerely psyched up to help you out that is probably your best bet.
women don't really know shit about men's fashion but at the same time know everything about men's fashion (at least their taste and if they have a good eye and are honest will be spot on w/ fit/color).
asking guys about fashion is even worse b/c guys just show you what they would want to wear.
it sounds like you personally going shopping and looking around and trying shit on is like pulling teeth so you are at a disadvantage there too.
asking salesmen in the store is a crapshoot too b/c many are not good and/or are just trying to sell you anything in the store w/ complete disregard for actual good insight.
sorry i don't have much more insight than: "you are probably fighting an uphill battle until YOU sincerely want to figure shit out."
If you do. There are manuals you can read that unlike poker actually can give you some good guidelines and hacks that are pretty universal. A lot of it will just be trying shit on and finding out what works. Fit, Color, and Comfort are typically all related to each other.
For your description of build I'd try some non-regular cuts (more slim, athletic whatever "x" brand calls it) in a L in polos as well as some regular cuts in some of the slimmer fitting european designers. Fit in the shoulders is always the most important.
Shorts: Shorts imo are completely subjective and based on however the fuck you wanna roll. Again, probably just comes down to trying a bunch on and finding the ones that are it and buying those in different colors.
Shoes: Shoes are same. There are rules like never wear running shoes and shit like that. Probably not a bad rule. I don't know. I'm kinda sick of writing at this point and this post probably got kinda long.
"The goal of dressing is to not look ridiculous"
Interpret that however you want and go from there. Good Luck. Have Fun. |

Since when is showing your nipples something to aim for? That can't be comfortable. Well fitting =/= tight fitting.

You say you have difficulty finding clothes that fit you just right because you have awkward body geometry or whatever. This isnt true, you just probably arent shopping at the right places that have enough variety in clothing to fit you. Shop at Express or American Eagle and just look at some of the mannequins or pictures on the all until you see something you like, then pick that. Dont go for the one that is wearing 15 different things and looks like a GQ poster or movie star, since nobody actually really dresses like that. Go for the more subtle look, or pick a few things from it and dress it down.
And try to avoid shorts as much as possible. Most men dont wear them. If you absolutely must (and we're talking because it's so hot you cant stand pants) then settle for some khaki/golfer type shorts, that still look professional. As mentioned earlier, basketball/skater/board shorts simply make you look like those stereotypes, which isnt usually appealing. |

they arent even remotely the same, the Vans are an example of something clean and simple that an adult man can get away with wearing. There are numerous other casual canvas shoes from other brands which are nicer than those Vans, but its a good example of the style.
Now look at the shoes you posted.
obnoxious giant logo on the side
bright orange colour-way on the top one
the grey is looks chunkier than a pair of Frankensteins boots
Did you even read is original post? He doesnt want to dress like a 15 year old anymore. The fact that those horrible checkered shorts can be found right next to the DCs in the same shop is a clue that you might be pointing him in the wrong direction.
Maybe you should suggest he complement this ensemble with an Affliction t-shirt. |
