There's a lot of long talks about the "A Universe from nothing". So saw a bunch of those instead of reading it lol.

And the God Delusion I stayed away from since a few mates who read all the time said it was boring and predictable. Much more fun to look through anything you can find from Hitchen on youtube, even those long debates. He goes in much more detail, sharp, and is a "violent" version of Dawkin.

Not that good with fiction books, I "never" read them for some reason.

So don't really have anything to recommend lol, I've just read a lot of self improvement books lately, and you won't get anything from them since ur all level headed and awesome. And I still have a few chapters left in the Thinking Fast And Slow book, never used such a long time on a book, just so difficult to read. So wasn't as enjoyable, and there are great summaries of the book instead of reading through over 500 pages, where you constantly have to keep checking up words (maybe x10 more fun if you already have a rich vocabulary and don't have to do that lol).

Here's a nice recent summary, with pictures lol. It got posted a few days ago, so really fresh:

+ Show Spoiler +

Some book's I've had in the back of my mind that I want to read is the one about Willpower, and I think the other one something about Applied intelligence, both sound pretty awesome.

Also seen some podcasts, Joe interviewing Tim Ferris, so a little interested in maybe reading through his books. But the "4 hours" thingy seem a bit gimmicky, like a market ploy, maybe a little too mainstream LOL. But sounds pretty cool (what suckered me in was when I found out in his chef book, he was using George st pierre's diet, dissecting it).

i read through the 4 hour body and while the marketing is gimmicky, the inside is great. its minimalist self help guides in lots of different areas. most dont overlap. i.e. if you want to lose weight you are going to struggle to put on muscle and gain testosterone. but there are plenty of cool methods in the book that are worth looking into. i downloaded it on torrents a couple years ago and gained a little bit of knowledge.

Check out Ender's Shadow and the books which follow Bean, felt like that series was better than everything after Ender's game. Other good sci-fi's you would probably like would be Old Man's War by John Scalzi.

oh sick i had no clue what the shadow series was about. who am i kidding, i will probably end up reading every book orson scott card wrote.

so far xenocide was definitely my favorite book. enders game was amazing story of manipulation, speaker for the dead was alright, but xenocide is a combination of philosophy, loads of science fiction and deeper insights into human nature.

I really dont get the love for Enders Game series, I thought the first one was alright but Speaker was really dreadful, didnt bother reading any others.

speaker doesnt work as a standalone novel. you need to read the follow up of xenocide to get the story. speaker leaves so many unanswered questions dealing with + Show Spoiler +

that you need to continue to enjoy it. but i agree speaker was no comparison to the other books

I also loved Enders Game and I recommend the following based on that.

Everything by Robert Heinlein, especially starship troopers

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman

Armor by John Steakley

The Forever War is kind of a critique to Starship Troopers, it's a great novel it's own right, but I think reading Starships Troopers and The Forever war immediately after is incredibly mental stimulation for the reader

was going to skip over this since i saw the movie starship troopers, but it seems the book is so different that its worth reading. and the mental stimulation you are talking about is what i experienced while reading xenocide so i am downloading those 2 books now

just read anything from Dostoyevski imo, even his supposed shitty ones are great and let's not forget that he was a degenerate gambler that almost lost his book rights at some point.
Trust me on this, character depth/motivation in his books will make most books you have read seem like generic soap operas

new shit has come to light... a-and... shit! man...

ok good blog post
i read A LOT when i was in high school because i was travelling 4 hours/day for 5 years to home and school and had to kill time. I read everything the teachers gave me and lots of stuff on my own. Had my sci-fi, fantasy, romantic, russian realist, classic, philosophical periods.
about some of the books from that reddit list:

1984: very good read
Slaughterhouse 5: dont remember much from it, but somehow i do know vonnegut was an epic man
Brave New World: okay read, kinda like 1984
Harry Potter Series: loved it when was young, would never read it again
The Foundation Saga: very good read, love asimov and his novels, huge legacy
Catch-22: very good read, one of my fav books, its not for everyone, gotta have a satiric humor
Crime and Punishment: often boring, okay read, some good thoughts
Animal Farm: very good read and short
The Lord of the Rings: okay read, kinda boring
A Brief History of Time: good read, sometimes with hard math, somtimes boring
The Art of War: good read since we are rts players
Odyssey: written in a fucking retarded ancient style, very bad read even tho the story is epic
A Song of Ice and Fire: good read, easily readable
The Brothers Karamazov: good read, thought provoking often, sometimes boring
The Old Man and the Sea: very good read, short

the book im about to finish now is Sofie's world. I think its kind of a must read. its about the history of philosophy from socrates to nietsche written in an easily readable style (story is young girl gets educated by philosopher)

thats my 2 cents

if someone read these please answer:
hitchikers guide rank1? is it really that good?
and snow crash?

Also, Ender's Game is ridiculously cool and one of my all-time favs, but I really loved Speaker. The final scene with Ender and Human was one of the most moving things I've ever read.

Fwiw the Jurassic park books are vastly different from the movies. I like them better as well and the JP movies are a huge guilty pleasure for me so that should say something.

I really enjoyed fooled by randomness, seems like a good choice.

My standard recommendation: everything by david mitchell.
Ghost written
Number9dream
Cloud atlas (thought movie was mediocre compared to book)
Black swan green
The thousand autumns of jacob de zoet (amazing final page but maybe im weird)

Number9 and autumns kinda have a young guy moving to big city/asia and growing up theme so they speak to me i suppose, very relatable main characters...

Outrageous fortune - if you like douglas adams style, this is a reaspnable approximation, and quite funny. There is a second book as well, love in the time of fridges but its very similiar.

Dance dance dance by haruki murakami

Neverwhere by neil gaiman (amazing)
American gods by neil gaiman
Good omens by neil gaiman and terry pratchett

Hm.. Off-suite socks..
