Jesus how can you be earning that amount and know virtually nothing about tax basics?

As pointed out by others 250k has almost no significance in relation to the 2013 marginal tax rates. You should seek some sort of financial advice (not from retards on LP who have degrees from Wikipedia).

How the hell can someone reach adulthood, let alone the kind of wealth you have, and not know how taxes work. Jesus.

Maybe because he didn't think of taxes as much? Taxes only hold your prosperity back.

A good friend of mine told me to think of poker as part of your portfolio. Some high risk, some midrange, and a larger base of stable lower return investments. His intention was to describe the types of games we should be looking for, but in a larger sense in could be that poker is part of a larger portfolio of all earnings. Eg. Highstakes Poker(high risk), Buisness investment (midrisk), property investments (low risk). Good to see you thinking about multiple sources of income. Even the top pros do not only make money from poker. They have endorsements, bookdeals, coaching, investments, horses, and (maybe not anymore) paid tv appearances.

You should probably talk to wh00sel and just consider investing in retirement between now and when you reach the age of 45.

I watched some interview with ADZ124 last month where he talks about how he's completely given up online poker and just plays live, some tournies, high-roller home games etc. Says it was the best decision he's ever made. NL is still a soft game in the live arena, and if you treat it like a job like someone like wh00sel does, you can live a good solid live at the midstakes games forever. Nobody ever said a poker player has to pull 7 figs a year to be successful.

very hard to invest in retirement for a poker player. every dollar is thought of as potential bankroll/capital to increase net worth. saving away for retirement is more like hoping over a lot of days i will spend enough time working that i will eventually earn enough money to not have to work for a whole lot of other days---those other days being the ones where im least physically able to participate in fun activities. only a sucker would choose to do that.

not trying to hate too hard on live poker but i just dont like it. i might consider getting a real world job before taking on live poker...well, maybe not, but it'd be close for me. that's how much i dislike live poker. doesnt matter if i make 1mm a year doing it, if i don't enjoy it im just not gonna wanna do it.

i appreciate the suggestion tho.

thanks for taking the time out of your day to point out that something has already been pointed out.

maybe the question u should be asking yourself is, why are you so concerned with what i know? im just a dude writing a blog about my hobby, poker....on a poker related website.

u wish u had a hobby that earned u the kinda dough mine earns me.

Because in case you hadn't noticed replies get lost or dismissed on here all the time and it's only through repetition that most people start to get a clue (I even acknowledged it had been pointed out previously).

I'm not concerned at all with what you do or know because it has zero impact on me. I took the time to give you some advice (admittedly brief but it's what you should be doing). I could of just called you a dumb fuck for not knowing about your marginal tax rates or there existence as it's pretty much the most basic information anyone with any sort of income learns first. Instead I tried to be helpful.

Because you don't know anything about me I'll just dismiss the last comment as you acting like a dickhead who has come into a little bit of money and now wants to show off. Instead of asking follow up questions or asking for information that could of helped you further you decide be dumb about it. Well played.

aren't you the one trying to show off your knowledge and how he knows nothing? I don't even see him showing off tbh. And you call 250k in a year little money, I'd like to see how much you make lol.

Yep it sure is showing off stating something that most people who earn an income know.

Believe it or not some people have jobs and/or investments outside of poker. Some people over the years have made some money, amazing I know.

Yes it was all a sinister ploy to gain power over some random guy on the internet who I will never meet or interact with. You got me.

I'm not in it for some bullshit e-penis competition. He should seek advice and learn a few basics to help HIMSELF (ie/ I get nothing out of it). Lest in a few years down the line he is selling a Porsche again.
