Is this standard. Should I press it more aggressively or fold at some point? I kinda felt I might be beat here. In the other hand I wasn't sure whether I was missing value against something like AJ. Hmmn.

From which part. I don't think any of those are probable the way it was played.

i have some problems with these situations too and i think ur play was good.
in this particular hand, there is quite a few weaker holdings that may try such a play on NL50 - AJ, AdTd, KK, QQ, even KJ by some players, ...

i myself either play it the same way u did to show it as cheap as possible or sometimes when there is more possible weaker holdings i like to reraise on flop - u would very possibly get the info about his strength here - a min-rereraise is probably monster (or call and reraise on turn again), while bluff would probably fold here. the most probable decent hand like top pair + draw or sthg like that will probably call u and if he just check-calls ur turn bet u are safe and u may decide on the river according to the whole board if u check to showdown or go for more...

ok, these are my thought, dunno whether its better or not.

I didn't include the result because DarkXprT and other pros would say how to play the hand when knowing what opponent hand. I don't want that.

tontonba   . Feb 09 2006 20:38. Posts 1281

from the weak minbet and minraise on the flop, it seems like hes either semi-bluffing (weakly) with QdKd or AdXd, QKo is likely too, but i dont see him reraising with that hand. It is possible that your opponent is slowplaying JJ or JT, but only possible, again not likely. even more remote is the possibility he has QQ/KK because, if hes a good player, he would have reraise pf. i agree with the check behind on turn because it A) induces a bluff from your opponent on the river if you have the best hand and B) saves you money if he is in fact slowplaying a hand that has you beat and you are WB.

i know nothing of how your opponent plays, but im going to take a guess and say QK, likely QdKd?

i think most of the time i would play it the same way, maybe bet the turn sometimes though too depending on how it feels...on one hand you don't want to give cheap draws, but i don't think you want to be building a huge pot with AA on this board most of the time, esp. if you think your opponent might be decent. i could be wrong tho

I felt he might have something like QJ, maybe even flopped two pair. Or been minraising with a straight draw. I wanted to go for calldown if it wasn't too expensive (and that's what I did).

my guess is he wants to showdown a hand that feels WA/WB as cheaply as possible, thinks he'll get c/r on the turn

bad play with AA here? if so, why?

the better play imo is to bet the turn and then fold if he puts in a raise that you respect

then river you can check it from position

You're giving the guy an opportunity to make a play on you though. Since you can't call reraise. Whereas by checking the turn you can flat call any river bet he makes. Earn yourself a cheap showdown with AA on an uncomfortable board against an uncomfortable player. I really like the way this was played out, no need to take risks but still getting a showdown with what's likely the best hand.

Betting the turn is also okay but I prefer the check. It induces a bluff too the guy will fire most likely any river doesn't matter what card comes. In cash value the hand will come down to about the same profit, whether you bet turn into check river or check turn into call river. The only difference is that you are possibly giving him a free card. Which I find less relevant in this case than the risk to lose the whole hand on turn without a showdown.

First of all raise more pf

Secondly i think c/c river and bet/fold turn are both viable as nazgul said. it really depends on the player and how much he'll bluff and how much he'll call with marginal hands. If he's a passive fishy guy then u have to bet the turn. But if he's a retarded semi-aggressive player(which he seems to be based on the flop action), then check/calling the river is probably best.

There can be only one

His .50 cent flop bet sorta throw you off a bit... hard to imagine what hand he would do that with, then make a min raise and then go on to check turn... lol. Im guessing hes either a complete moron that missed a flush draw, or the turn improved his hand alot in which case he is still a moron to check it.

QQ, AK.

Mya, FroZ, in fact I was going to open with my standard 4 BB here, but was being too hasty with my mad APM so it only went in as 3. And I'm sure the hand would've played out roughly the same (postflop bets bigger although relatively the same).

Oh and I don't think anyone has guessed his hand right yet ^^

As said, nobody has yet gotten it right.

Here's another hint:
His unorthodox play for this type of hand made it hard to pinpoint. Furthermore, TURN card didn't help him.

Hm.. he just called preflop... then bets .50 into a pot of almost $5. Then doesn't hesitate to re-reraise you after you raise. Checks the turn, maybe fearing AK, maybe looking for a checkraise. Solid bet on the turn...

I'm guessing TT?

as it's neither JJ, nor TT, 22 TJ, J2, 26, or a hand improved by a Q,
the only ones left that would beat you are 66, or T2.
I'd say 66 because even a retard usually don't call raises with T2
fishes usually minbet flop with a small pocket pair or bottom or mid pair. His raise would have been a poor bluff, and he didn't retry on turn because he could have wanted a cheap showdown too after you called his raise.
T2 would be very weird, I have almost never seen anyone call a raise with such hand.

Could be a flopped set, easily, maybe even a set of jacks. A ton of hands he could have and people do the craziest things, what's the point of guessing too much? I see people valuebetting 1/4 pot with nut hands on the river all the time. You want a complete list of hands that beat you there? I'm sure then I'll have "guessed" it So what was it?

Okay so first of all:
I already explained why I didn't raise 3 BB. Because I'm mad fast but didn't have enough accuracy there.

Second:
I don't remember JJ mentioned (I've heard QQ and TT) and I'm way too tired to go through the whole thread to see whether it was mentioned. Either way, he had JJ.

Third:
Abrasive-x, shut the fuuuck uuuup. Even if you're right, it's been said like 10 times so I can't even trust it's your own idea.

4th:
AND HELL YEA I sHOULDVE RAISEd moRe PREFLOP; that's the one part I did know before I even posted the hand, BUT I also said it would've gone down the very same road anyway so there's No POINT in bringing it up again.

To make it short:
Before you post intuitively clear advice, have a little checkup on a) whether there has been discussion on particular play already and b) whether there has been a reply to that very comment. And I do assume here that everyone's capable of reading (text) so I might consider forgiving abrasive-x this time, but Veg? i guess I forgive because of the heritage.
