When I was younger I remember always feeling passionate about something, whether it was starcraft, or poker.. I would always be on the lookout for something to invest most of my energy in. Whatever it was, there was always a sense of wonder about it. Now that i'm older, things feel more plain, and I find it difficult to feel excited and diligent like before.
I miss that feeling more than anything, and I despise growing old. I recently moved to Montreal to start doing mma, hoping to spark my passion . I'm also getting back into poker, because my funds are getting low!
Do you guys still feel passionate about things in your lives?
Also,
I know it's old, and quite of few of you prob already watched it
but I think it's a must watch for those of you who haven't

Yep. Poker. And it feels more and more so every day.
I must say having young arrogant cunts on Skype that are super obsessed with the game helps a ton.
Like yesterday we found a new concept and discussed it until 4am including arguing logic, doing math with no brain power left and scrambling forum posts and watching vids until my body and mind gave up

i can see where you're coming from. i felt like that for a long time. mainly after ending significant relationships with people.
i'm also at the age where i start hearing and seeing friend's parents dieing. and i myself have been trying to overcome certain ailments.
it's hard for me to put into words what i feel and more importantly my mental approach to life, but at the moment i enjoy life. i was sad for a long time and was really unhappy about being a part of it and wanted to not really ragequit but sadquit society. but now i get to help people and get paid for it. life is whatever you want it to mean. i dont really mean that in a happy uplifting way but not really a sad depressing way either. right now i'm prettty fucking stressed because of family, relationships, career, my own desires. obviously u can't enjoy being stressed because of these things, but i've come to take a few half hours every day and just appreciate the struggle i guess.
highly considering deleting everything i wrote for like 10 minutes but i guess ill submit post.

Mnj, inspiring stuff man. Delete if you want, but I enjoyed reading. Cheers to you fella.
edit: yes, I used to feel passionately about something too. Hockey. To this day, I still dream of playing it... smashing people... rushing the corners, ripping shit up, yeah. It probably encompasses a solid third of my dreams.
I can't really relate to you gamers (never have), but I kinda get it. You feel like you peaked. You crave that peak.
It's time for all of us to find new hobbies hah. Seriously though. I'll never be a competitive hockey player again, I (have NO fucking clue) if you guys can actually compete at computer games?
I really do like this community.

telling myself i'm immoral if i don't help people that are suffering for no good reason. (which is everyone in the world)

so my passions are exactly the same as bertrand russells.
my passions aren't as strong as they could be, otherwise i would be pursuing them rather than writing on message boards.
i have no passion for poker anymore

I'm passionate as fuck about everything all the time.
Every time I shower I'm just like "holy fuck I live in Australia my life rules. Also I'm in a shower."
Every fan I see bopping their head at one of my band's gigs makes me just want to whip out my dick and fuck existence itself.
Poker and music and reading make me feel like my being is charged with the essence of the universe.
I cleaned the kitchen yesterday and just stared at how clean that motherfucker was and loved every second.
Eating obscenely healthy, meditating, and sleeping right all help with this philosophy.
My post sounds a little "jock quarterback" style but I mean every word

Seriously though, this sounds really good, living in the present, being detached and taking difficult things more as an observer or a witness and enjoying the detail of the little things just gives you so much freedom.
I've strolled into Buddhism and if you strip it down from all the religious stuff and the doctrine the thoughts behind it lead to an awesome life (no good or bad, no ego, no attachment, past present and future are in the end one thing).

Btw if you use mindfulness and/or meditation you can be passionate about almost anything.
It's like levels in poker, just with your own mind.
L1- you think thoughts
L2 -you realize the thoughts you are thinking
L3 - you realize how realizing the thoughts you were thinking make you feel
L4 ....
It's like being a witness, a curious observer of your own mind - that way you can enjoy new things and mundane things alike, and as I'm hoping eventually completely command your mind to enjoy anything, think about whatever you want whenever you want and be completely in control of what you enjoy and are passionate about
93% Sure!

there are just so many ups and downs in life. Also the boring everyday routines, where u dont feel happy nor sad, you are just there and doing stuff.
There cant be constant happiness, unless you are on drugs 24/7

If you are mindful of those tasks they become a joy too actually

Where is that written? Reality is subjective. There is no "right" way to view the world.
Challenges, stressful events, even sadness itself I'm at peace with. Sadness doesn't make me happy, but I'm not happy 24/7. I am however, at peace 24/7, and that's pretty much the same thing.
Seriously though my diet is like wat.
And I've been training my mind in the art of gratitude just to exist in the first place and positivity for a long time.

Loving boring everyday routines is touched on in the Bhagavad Gita and in Steven Pressfield's The War of Art as well as 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
It's called loving the process and being entitled to your labour, not the fruits of it. It's a pretty universal concept amongst most successful people in history knowingly or not, and it allows me to accomplish all sorts of shit without inner resistance.

had the same problem 3 years ago. switched to podcasts like JRE and found that there are unlimited things in the real world to be passionate about.
we all got used to just exclusively sitting in front of the computer that we forget that. now i try and just use the internet to enhance stuff that im interested in now which is what i shouldve been doing in the first place.
