Doug Stanhope is the closest thing to a hero to me, he is simply brilliant.
He has Dawkins, Hitchens and Harris ideas about religion but without their absolute moronic state wortship just like Noam Chomsky but without its spineless sold out pseudo-intellecualism, kind of like Stefan Molyneux but without its weird new found misogyny and self importance, just like George Carlin but as abrasive as Hitchens.
Doug goes further than all of them, especially with his antinatalism. He doesn't sit on the fence or sugarcoat it, he just tells like like it is (or goes too far but it's hilarious). It takes a lot of balls because very few people are supportive of this kind of pessimism. Criticizing religion is easy in comparison. Bill Hicks was the closest thing to him in that regard.
"That's why my girlfriend and I broke up: she wanted kids, and I… well, she wanted kids [laughs]. I had no idea her philosophy was that flawed. She goes, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a kid? To have this fresh, clean slate which we could fill. A little clean spirit, innocent, and to fill it with good ideas.” Yeah, yeah, how about this? If you’re so fucking altruistic, why don’t you leave the little clean spirit wherever it is right now? Okay? Horrible act, childbirth. Nightmare. I would never bring a kid to this fucking planet." - Bill Hicks

Glad you liked it. It's definitely not one of the most depressing movies ever, but you kind of have to reach deep to find the positive parts of it at the end.

I love most things Stanhope. Stanhope is pretty open about his residence and partying off the grid in Arizona. Should we figure out an LP meet up there?
In an attempt to add something to the LP community so I can perhaps feel better about myself and my place on this spinning rock of matter: Jim Jeffries is another comedian worth a look.
If you like Hitchens check out some Martin Amis. They were good buddies and Amis has quite a selection of novels that bring me the positive spine tingle and enjoyment through prose, perception, and story. For the youtube viewers, I have not looked into it too much but he has some good stuff on there. First that comes to mind:
"... I feel an intellectual distance from all religions..." is something that is not often said aloud or the positions surrounding that quote have not been defended as well as in this video.
To all the LPers who did not bundle themselves into centralized institutions of superstition this morning and are looking to improve their waking hours at the world theatre, milky way galaxy through reason, truth, knowledge, ethics, and beauty take care. Rock out with your cock out (respectfully). Amen.
