Where in the world outside my liberal bubble is it people are building long boats and sailing places? (They weren't just sailing though - vikings also used a lot of slaves, not just 'genius engineering.) |

Have you met many Mongolian people? They are pretty rare to meet in the first world as they are a pretty poor country these days but I had a chance to meet 2 Mongolian dudes while I was in Vegas and they are definitely proud of their history/heritage.
There is nothing wrong with that. Mongolia doesn't have a whole lot going on in 2020, what the hell is wrong with being proud of their heritage. Nobody is perfect in history, but that does not mean you cannot hang on to aspects of the past that are worthy of being proud of.

That makes a lot less sense for a Norwegian though. Our feminist hellhole has actually been the best place in the world to live in for the past 20 years, which probably makes it the best place to live, period, throughout human history. There's certainly no time or place I would rather have been born.
I also don't think a belief is validated through someone holding said belief. Something can be really stupid or bad even if you can find people who don't believe it to be stupid or bad. |

If you can build boats at some world class level you probably have a chance to start a multi-million dollar business and become stupid rich.
If you can work on boats you will have highly lucrative employment for the rest of your life.
If you are an excellent sailor you will again have access to highly lucrative employment for the rest of your life.
Even if you can renovate/work on sailboats/engines this is a great skill. Small 28'' sailboats aren't that expensive so being able to work on those is going to give you interesting options in terms of housing/adventure.
Clearly these are not useless skills, but since the Liberal university system shovels propaganda down people's throats you are unable to understand this. |

There's always a nostalgia for going back to rough times where we hunted boars with an axe and had glorious deaths in battle.
Drone the reasons why algorithm censorship is bad is actually the same reason why regular people-enforced censorship is bad.

Most norwegians are really proud of their history and their Viking heritage thou. I even THINK I remember Eriador using a "viking helmet" as symbol @ team liquid back in the days...
The Viking Leiv Eriksson discovered America 500 years before Christopher Columbus and unlike him they just traded with the local people. This would be more well known if it was not for the fact that he went back quickly and told no one about it. |

Naw, the Vikings who went to North America ended up fighting with the local tribes. Leiv Eriksson's brother was killed. They tried to establish more permanent settlements but it was eventually abandoned precisely because of all the fighting with the tribes that were already there. (Viking accounts of this indicate that in this particular instance, the Vikings might not have been the aggressors, though, but of course, the sources aren't necessarily reliable here. It does make sense though, there's no point in crossing the Atlantic ocean for a raiding party.) |

Blackface in its original form, when it was used to white people to display stereotypes/caricatures of black people is obviously racist. Somehow it's morphed into the idea that any display of using makeup to portray any black person is also racist. So Jimmy Kimmel doing an impression of Karl Malone is racist. A white guy on SNL doing an impression of Obama is racist. I'm reminded of this meme a few weeks ago around Halloween time of body paint from a Party supply store
You could say I'm being hyperbolic and nobody would actually be offended by this but I disagree. This company didn't go out of their way to make different packaging just for the hell of it. There are quite a few people that would say that body paint is packaging is racist.
Does this make sense to anyone? Is it too much to ask that we live in a society where shit is dictated by logic and rationality instead of capitulating to any whiner that wants to decide what they find "offensive" on that particular day?

There's a huge difference between making an impression of some specific individual be it so that they are black, yellow or whatever, and doing a stereotypical racial profiling

Nobody truly gives a shit, nobody felt trully offended by Trudeau's Aladdin costume, its just an opportunity for virtue signaling opression points, It's the same about cultural apropiation and calling us "latinx", its just woke morons playing games and they are a small but very loud minority and it seeps into mainstream culture, now people would be terrified to dress up in anything that remotely resembles blackface so now the Dutch hold the last bastion of blackface with their Sinterklass and Pete shit against the woke horde lol. |

The world's leading medicine journal posting ideological bullshit.
This politization of science is so dangerous, the anti-mask, anti-vax, and anti-climate et al movements will be stronger than ever.

Anyone have an opinion on the Rwandan president, Paul Kagame?
I think I made a poll in this thread about whether authoritarianism has a place, and nobody voted that it's ever a good thing.
I personally disagree. I think authoritarianism is necessary sporadically, kind of like changing your roof on a house every however many years... |
