hahaha, she will totally spark the conversation at the Met gala you guys, taxation of the wealthy class is all they will talk about between sips of their champaigne.
She was considering a beautiful "I cant breathe" black velvet dress, but its a little bit last-year, and the "tax the rich" was more on brand, great choice AOC.

The reason that chart is quite popular is that it's basically an Orwellian construct. History is erased from it, (or rather not taken into consideration).
If the chart looked at all of political history, basically every single politician listed above will be on the same dot, (has the same coordinates). There might be some very marginal difference between sanders and trump if you zoom in a bit. It would be similar to how an alien might not notice the difference between a mouse and a human as we have very similar genetic material, comparing all life forms in the universe might make us pretty much the same species.
Obviously, all of history might be a bit extreme but if we actually considered a chart that took into account all of politics for the last century then it would have educational value rather than being good propaganda.
It's nice to compare sanders with EU politicians, but that's still a very small boundary on political views.
Compared go Gengis Khan, Trump and Sanders are quite alike, brilliant observation lol.
Standard socialist... most wait for more power before they show the rolex tho.

Go fuck yourself Baal for making me think about the Met Gala for more than 0 seconds...
I would guess people get sponsored for this?
You would think AOC would mention this. There is no way she spent a dime on that dress too. If she was like "yo yo yo, x sponsored me for this event for $30k and my friend from the Bronx made me this dress so we could crash the Met Gala I might respect it. There are a large proportion at the top that in fact due need to pay more in taxes or we need to figure something out that is fair.
On the other hand there is Grimes who showed up in a crazy outfit looking like some Final Fantasy character with a bad ass sword and I don't hate her for it. I don't respect it because I hate events like that but no one is getting pissed at Grimes, at least not for her Met Gala appearance (although certainly some will hate to be fair).
Kim Kardashian came as Kaonashi the no-face spirit from Spirited Away which is beyond bad ass. I always have the inclination to tell Kim Kardashian to fuck off but Kaonashi gets my nod as best look at the Met Gala........ Annndddd, the Kaonashi mask was photoshopped.... Fuck Kim Kardashian.
re: rolex
AOC wisely wore no jewelry with that dress but obv that dress has the same effect. AOC's power level has risen way above Rolex by the way. She could flex any watch she wanted at this point if it did not alienate voters. The thing is a lot of working class women in NYC may have dreamt about going to the Met Gala someday or being Cinderella or whatever else archetype they are dreaming about. This probably will not alienate her voter base or hurt her popularity. AOC has her district covered for aeons it seems.
JOE NORMAN
In other news, your boy Joe Norman was talking about a New Hampshire (NH) rep filing legislature to secede from the USA. First of all, I love NH. I have no idea what the chances are because I just read the headline. I am rooting for it big time but I always wonder about defense and security in a situation like that. I am enjoying the follow. Complexity scientist turned living on a homestead in the forests of New Hampshire is bad ass.
I bet she gets a shitton of support for that as well.

"The rolex" is a symbol, one of profound hypocricy that requires a high level of self delusion.
If it was sponsored by the Justice Democrats or the DSA to make a statement that is obviously better than being sponsored by Exxon or Nancy Pelosi or a personal bank transfer or $30k in bricks of cash fiat AOC stores in a vault in her apartment?
At least she went with Jenny from the block to make her dress?
I am putting these collection of words in front of question marks because I think it kind of makes it better but is also classic identity politics and theatre. AOC didn't go with Céline or Pheobe Philo she went with Jenny from the block (Bronx).
I am not a watch person but if I had $1 billion I don't know if I wouldn't end up with a Patek Phillipe collection. I never said I wasn't a hypocrite.
Rolex is like the standard classic in basic bourgeoisie luxury. I don't want to completely shit on Rolex as I know some people that wear them and some of them are nice looking. A rolex passed down through someone's grandfather is better than 2 flags at the Bellagio watch store?
I had a friend who had a BMW M3 with sport mode. It maybe in the same class except it was fucking fun to drive.
If I had $1 billion I would not be buying hanes t-shirts. I would be draped in Issey Miyake. I would buy Issey Miyake for as many people as I could. We would all shave our heads and wear black Issey Miyake and eat gruel in my wild, twisted, socialist fantasy.........
I would live in a concrete dome and hire James Turrell for the lighting. I would make that a template for habitat for humanity ^x...
I would figure out a way for more people to have Italian food, Japanese food, Indian food, Mexican food, Thai food...
This is actually what I should be spending my time on but these ideas are so big they overwhelm me.
Damn I didn't know Issey Miyake makes clothes, been using his perfumes for years.
The women clothes look dope as fuck.
RikD you ever thought about using all the energy you spend on the blog/random posts here on a book instead? You kind of sound like a reverse-Bukowski

That perfume is sooo good. I don't buy perfumes anymore as I have found out that they are cruel to animals and offend a lot of peoples' (smell) palates but I have a shit ton because I used to go into Sephora and they were desperate to get men in the store so would give a shit ton of samples out. Since I only wear cologne to paint it's probably all old by this point but it still smells good. If I was dating I would probably consume some of it since it is already purchased and sitting there and same if I had a girlfriend that enjoyed the smells.
Yeah, the women's clothes are dope as fuck. I don't even like this season in men's wear. Through the years there are some good stuff.
I have thought about writing a book. I have written some fiction. I don't like it and I'm not very good.
I don't know what a reverse-Bukowski means. People have told me I should write a book especially about my poker days but I don't think that is happening. I have plenty of good stories from my life but I don't assume other people would necessarily want to hear them or if I want to be transparent to any potential book buyer.
You're cynical but in a different way compared to Bukowski. His was dark and nihilistic, yours is kind of the opposite (at least in writing). Plus he targets the individual a lot, while you're critical of society mostly

I'm definitely cynical. I don't know if my writing is "light" but I typically do think there is a little bit of a chance at joy and the good life. We aren't drawing dead at least not in our lifetime and the next generation. I don't know what the opposite of nihilism is. Yeah, I mostly blame society but I am not one to disregard the individual. There is some will there I still haven't figure that out yet. To make this more political the right wingers like to put 100% on the individual which I think is way too high. Society is probably at least 90%?
Get some popcorn and watch Russia's 3 day elections now that Putin's party has under 50%. The Navalny parties all got banned so the anti-Putin votes all go for the communist party. Russians that have experienced first-hand communism and pretty much despise it are willing to vote for that instead of Putin.
Im guessing if the elections weren't rigged Putin would've gotten wiped out

Some Taleb:
It is immoral to be in opposition to the market system and not live (somewhere in Vermont or Northwestern Afghanistan) in a hut or cave isolated from it.
If your private life conflicts with your intellectual opinion, it cancels your intellectual ideas, not your private life.
Courage is the only virtue you cannot fake.
Finally, when young people who "want to help mankind" come to me asking, "What should I do? I want to reduce poverty, save the world," and similar noble aspirations at the macro-level, my suggestion is:
1.) Never engage in virtue signaling;
2.) Never engage in rent-seeking;
3.) You must start a business. Put yourself on the line, start a business.
We need people to take (bounded) risks. The entire idea is to move the descendants of homo sapiens away from the macro, away from abstract universal aims, away from the kind of social engineering that brings tail risks to society.
Courage (risk-taking) is the highest virtue. We need entrepreneurs.
+++++
Thoughts?
What kind of social engineering is he referring to and why would those bring tail risks to society?

Actually, the worst social engineering is one that conditions people to ask twitter intellectuals what they can do to reduce poverty or w/e it may be. He doesn't seem to have picked up on that.
The correct response to someone asking "what should I do?" is to tell them to think of something and do it. It's so easy to do something for anyone with relative privilege that you basically have to be a mental slave and propagandized to even ask that question, and obviously that person asking the question knows their own talents far more than a stranger does. He tells everyone to start a business, but people have different strengths. Some people are better at being a war correspondent, for example. That's an extremely high-risk job with high reward for society overall.
One of 3 non decent human beings on a site of 5 people with between 2-3 decent human beings
Taleb's takes on Twitter lately have been quite inadequate in my opinion. Snowden shit on him and instead of owning it he launched his twitter gang to abuse Snowden, how fucking sad. He started criticizing what people wear, even though he himself hates 'suits' and when he got engaged on the topic he just said it's only related to suits not how you dress overall????
The guy has become the 'villain' of his books, what a joke.
