I feel like Bozos is getting crushed. Elon seems to have maybe some things right but honestly both are pretty warped. Fucking dystopia really.

I always liked the idea of free speech as long as it is not inciting violence. From my knowledge Germany has the best constitution in this regard. What the fuck does "inciting violence" mean exactly and what can be proven in a court of law? Obviously, Nazis are trouble. Obviously, the censorship freaks are trouble too. Twitter will always be fucked. Washington Post and Jeff Bozos will always be a giant pile of shit. As, I said I feel like Musk has some part of him that is trying although the actions are not always there. Bozos is locked into the pussy and power paradigm. He mostly just wants more and hotter pussy on a bigger and better yacht. I think a lot of people can relate to that. I don't care to go into how many times over Bozos or Musk could solve x, y, z problems but it is relevant. People are trying to compete with that. Even if they have a 10 year old Toyota Camry, a shit job, and no way out they are going to grind.... for what?

I couldn't help myself and looked into it a bit. He SAYS he wants free speech, open source algorithms, and getting rid of all the spam bots. Time will tell I suppose. If he can do those 3 things I may start using Twitter again.

Well, i've basically never used twitter but here are my thoughts:

Due to the nature of network effects it seems very difficult, if not impossible to have a competitive market in the social network arena. The more people use your network, the better it is. Even if the technology and product is inferior to others, in every single way. That is the unfortunate nature of the business. Similar natural monopolies formed by the robber barons have been broken up before-as in the early 20th century, so it's not impossible to do it again.

I like the idea of open-source algorithms if I understand it correctly. However the secrecy behind them is a highly valuable trade secret. I'd be somewhat surprised if Elon Musk really went through with that because it would be like lighting money on fire. Then again twitter is small potatoes compared to google or facebook.

Getting rid of spam bots is fine, and consistent with free speech values.

There's nothing wrong with moderation if the business itself is competitive since people can set up alternative social media sites. There are in fact a lot of social media sites like twitter that exist that have zero moderation, and they are reasonably popular. But many of them are lowest iq places on the internet, basically places to discuss QAnon.

Like i've said before, i'm far more interested in dealing with freedom of thought than free speech, and I think the way to obtain that is through increased public control over these natural monopolies, not control by a few people. The book Bit Tyrants has a lot of suggestions on how to obtain free thought, in the last chapter. It's somewhat disturbing that so many people on the progressive left can't think of any other way of dealing with this than through increased moderation. Kind of shows how good these sites are at suppressing free thought i guess. Twitter is a fairly small part of this problem as well. The social media doesn't really create news, that still comes from the mainstream corporate media primarily, and there are a lot of shills being funded on by rich elites on these sites. Changing ownership doesn't do anything to combat this. As before, I think google and facebook's algorithms are far more responsible for controlling what people think. Google and Facebook have the ability to bury independent media if they want, and Google has been doing this very aggressively since around 2016. Their level of control is like a puppeteer having the ability to pull strings that control the environment we are exposed to, essentially we are being pushed back to Plato's cave. The goal is to break from that cave and free speech concerns are irrelevant to that goal.

I don't know of any solution for the narcissism and idiocy that comes out of people from prolonged twitter use. Ideally, we should treat Twitter addiction as a serious mental health problem and warn children of the dangers that it brings, perhaps by showing them examples of how stupid people can become after years of nonstop twitter use. Since markets are only free when people are fully informed about this, i beleive that whoever owns twitter shares at least some responsibility for doing this.

I tried to boycott Google with Mozilla Firefox, DuckDuckGo, ProtonMail. I couldn't quit YouTube though and on my new laptop I'm back to Google everything just because it was easier.

It's not too difficult to be pseudonymous. To be truly anonymous is very difficult and requires a lifestyle I do not desire. I don't think it is the right attitude to just give in to Google completely either. The only reason for me to be on Twitter is really a fear of missing out. It's the same with YouTube. I don't think I have it in me to move to Siberian Islands population: 6 either.
