This is really bizarre. I don't even doomscroll Reddit that much anymore but it has gone up recently and I can see everything happening in real time. You only have to read a little bit of Curtis Yarvin, maybe a bit of BronzedAgedPervert, maybe listen to some Red Scare to see it all falling into place. I saw it with X too. Those algorithms are fucked. Luckily, I got the hell out of there when I did. I try to not be in denial. Most people seem to be in denial. I don't really know what to do about it all. They are going for textbook Yarvin with neo-fascist sprinkles if not worse than that.

So far I think Trump did well. I just hope he doesnt let Russia win in Ukraine..

All of the economics except for his theory on the global reserve army of labor and his critique of Says Law seems like junk, but the sociology and philosophy is impeccable. Ok. So, we are not for Marxist economics or the bourgeois liberal mental disorder. Check. I am a bit shaky over this whole New Right, New Republic situation co-opted by tech billionaires though. The mastermind (Curtis Yarvin) saying they'll use the poors for bio-fuel errr, throw them all into virtual reality prisons (good negotiation there Yarvin). It's all happening in real time and there is seemingly nothing that I can do.

Politically I'm an eco socialist and am pro global democracy. Something along the lines of reducing planned obsolescence, advertising, food waste, reducing the work day, while increasing development in poor countries, would help immensely in reducing emissions and it would only really cost the billionaire class and it would be enough to stall any cascade of tipping points for a long enough time until there really are climate control technologies.

Increased public transportation has the dual effect of reducing the 10 million or so premature deaths from air pollution every year as well as reducing emissions.

People who lose their jobs in advertising could get jobs promoting family planning programs and other propaganda necessary for transitioning towards decarbonization.

the far right are implementing one of the worst political systems you could think of. None of these people care about science or democracy. Climate change does the most damage to a fragile econonic system...and covid showed that this is exactly what it is.

Sam Altman and Eric schmidtt and Alexander wang are smart people, but also deluded in that they are saying that Ai is going to solve climate change. That's their justification behind Stargate and mass gpu spending. Those people cannot be allowed to have unchecked arrogance.

It's not the worst political systems for the far right or at least they don't think it will be. The oligarchs is predictably who will win and perhaps to an extent those who have bled for them.

I have no money, no foreign citizenship, no work visa. It seems bad to let China have better AI. It seems bad to let climate change runaway. All of the options seem bad.

While all of your points are logical and reasonable they could also be categorized by being idealistic. I hope I am not over-reacting but the USA is getting farther and farther away from that ideaology by the hour. To the point that we better hope all of the AI kings are not actually arrogant (narcissistic, psychopaths).

Of course the odds are bad for the left right now. Nevertheless the battle must be fought to the last man standing. At least that's my view on it.

I'm fully aware of how bad things look. Doesn't matter because you can always make contributions. Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will.

the ai kings have already shown they are arrogant enough to destroy the eco system. Supporting neo fascism is kinda tame by comparison imo, but the problems compound on each other anyway.

I think at this point it's quite clear that the tech oligarchs are all going to be siding down on the neofacism side, except Bill Gates I guess.

I read Gates book on climate change and it's mostly in favor of tech solution and increased r and d spending, carbon tax, and lifestyle changes like eating veggie burgers lol. Which would still destroy the eco system because it's not enough. If ecocide was a law, he'd be charged over it.

Things are obv not so great for immigrants and transgender people. But there is no need for gulags because they are getting voted in without them, but I also don't think rich billionaires want gulags in America and neither does the public.

I went back and looked at what conservative presidential candidates said about immigration 40 years ago and they were very soft on it, even compared to democrats today.

I really don't see what the issue with China AI is supposed to be. So they make a better product, then what? What's the issue? That they steal data just like everyone else does?

Most of America was in favor of green new deal policies in 2019 and most people are in favor of many degrowth policies that eco socialists advocate.

That's a good point on the comparison. 8 billion versus 7 million or whatever the new number is going to be. I don't think it will go down exaclty like the nazis. Detention centers at Guantanamo Bay and wherever else there going to put them. Yarvin says they will use all the poors for bio-fuel or throw them in virtual reality prisons. That seems just like something Yarvin would say that could actually be willed into existence or maybe likelier that they will use everyone for super cheap labor.

Bill Gates is kind of a joke at this point.

They can put labor camps in at Guantanamo or other secret places like they already do or just hidden out in the open like many jails today.

Palantir's big sell is that AI has to be better in the USA or else. If the USA can be big and scary (and deadly) things are good. If China is big and scary (and deadly) things will be bad. Either way the USA better hope that Palantir is good bc a lot of money is going to be going their way.

A JD Vance and tech oligarch ran USA monarchy... I don't know if it matters that a Green New Deal was popular in 2019.

I don't know much about politics, but I do know that the stocks that I'm invested in have raised in value by 3x since Trump got back into office.

Recent freak show of appointees got me remembering how I argued against *gasp* Rex Tillerson on here eight years ago. Nothing matters now.

US deserves what we get to some degree, but I do feel especially bad for Ukrainians who are just trying to fight off a terrorist invasion. Best case scenario is Putin keeps what he took without penalty.
