I can buy a pair of Jordans that Jay Z was wearing to the Nets game to feel better but the only thing that changes is my shoes. Ain't that the blues.
In all reality, it's probably really fun to open up the packaging. Maybe it's fun to get an outfit together. Certainly people will compliment the shoes. Then they sit there. Fucking patent leather. You watch Earthlings. You resent the shoes. So, they sit and they sit. Finally, they get given away to Goodwill and there is peace and serenity. Until Pharrell comes out with a new canvas shoe that catches the eye.... There is no branding, no leather, etc..... I actually still wear these shoes even though I don't want to support megacorp Adidas. They are just shoes now that I will wear until I wear them out.

if someone buys anything above the bare minimum (i.e., anything above "is practical" ) it sounds like you have a problem with it. people have niches - what good does being judgmental about it bring to your daily life?

I don't mind losing some waking time on thinking about how to reverse the extinction of humans and probably most living beings on Earth. Probably everybody besides Greta Thunberg and some others should spend some more time thinking about it. Again, it's not even about the extinction it's the amount of suffering that goes along with it.
that doesn't make sense
you know who kim kardashian is. that doesn't mean you care about instagram sluts with huge asses
level 1 bullshit come on don't troll me with that
Actually it's more like saying you know who Kim's sister's ex-boyfriend is, which probably has some correlation to interest in reality TV sluts.
Everyone knows Kim K, so the fashion equivalent would be like knowing the name Rolex or Prada. I've never heard of Birken or Daytona (re: fashion) outside of this blog, I had to google what they are (apparently Daytona is a type of Rolex?).
I don't care if people are into expensive fashion stuff btw, just pointing out the logic fail.

hm birken bags I've heard referenced multiple times and I am def not a luxury item baller. daytona I didn't know, but I've heard of the patek philippe's you never actually own a patek philippe, you're merely keeping it for the next generation slogan. I think a person with good memory who consumes a wide variety of culture is likely to become exposed to and attain some knowledge of even if they have no personal interest in the subject matter.

this is a terrible assumption.
Hey man, I realize you have a fancy tech job in California and live that life. I assume you couldn't show up to work in paint stained cut off sweatshorts and a Gojira t-shirt and sandals. I realize the women there look at what kind of car you drive, what kind of watch you have and where you stay before considering the contents of your character. I mean a certain class of women does that anywhere on earth but I found it really bad in California specifically. That is just the competition you are in. I don't hate you I hate the system. These comfortable niches you talk about are late stage capitalism and marketing. What if we all wore recycled plastic hiking gear and biked to work and had showers in the bathrooms and wore practical garmin watches from intern to CEO? Spend the extra money and time on some viable charity. You are a bourgeois mannequin with a spiritual malady. Your soul would like to express itself in ways other than buying expensive watches and playing poker.
Being judgmental about it? I am just challenging your way of life. I am challenging TOP DOWN COOL and thinking and writing about the spiritual malady that is prevalent in many peoples' lives these days. You're getting raped by marketing bro. But, the thing is I don't have any suggestions. If you are "winning" in that life the best play may not to be "woke" but rather continue "winning." It takes a strong character to rise above and be larger than that superficial life. It's a complete paradigm shift that was not easy for me but easier because I didn't win in that life. I lost big time. I got my ass kicked. You still have to show up to work in smart business casual and you have to show up to the lounge in smart business casual and you can't be seen in the same clothes so you need A LOT of smart business casual. If you have the shirt and the pants you need the belt and the shoes. Charcoal calls for black belt and black shoes. Navy calls for brown belt and brown shoes or maybe red belt and red shoes if you want to get risque. So, you have all these shirts and all these pants and all these leather animal products. You need that as a baseline. A watch really brings that uniform up a notch doesn't it? Now, what watch represents my soul? What watch makes me bulletproof, gives me super powers? LOL, I just thought of the business card scene from American Psycho:

It's actually a real problem because you have to keep fighting. You have to keep consuming. The spiritual malady doesn't go away. You have to be up on what GQ is saying, what Kanye West is wearing, what Virgil Abloh is doing. I will say this. It feels great to go into the local Thai place where I know everyone in my cutoff paint stained sweatshorts and Gojira t-shirt and sandals or the diner or the Korean spot or the coffee place or the AA meeting or wherever. It feels good to give to charities I researched and have faith in. I am lacking in giving my time but that is trickier with my work schedule.
The bourgeois mannequins can say I'm wasting a life or that I am pathetic. It doesn't feel that way. I can do everything that is actually important to human sanity and joy. I can't even really comment on what I think about the bourgeois mannequin life because I can't live it. All I know is I wasn't happy in it. I was happy with friends. I was happy flirting and picking up. I was really doing a lot of the same things. Waking up with some coffee and LP. Going for a walk in nature. Hanging out with friends. Reading good books. I can't get drunk and go to bars and flirt and pick up but I can paint. I can still flirt and date. I don't know. I don't hate you Into Infinity I hate the game. I think people of any niche would do better to abandon materialism and pick up connections, nature, Jesus Christ, Buddha, et al.

There was a guy on 2p2 that was kind of a hero. His name was Henry17. He posted a lot on the student life forum. Basically, spent a lot of time helping people get women. He was like 37 when he made most of his posts. I have to say they helped me a lot. I still have some of the remnants of that person. The Hugo Boss pants and shirts. The John Varvatos shoes. The belts from Nordstroms. I had to tweak it a little bit as I was working in steel mills in Northwest Indiana. If I was with my friends in Chicago for certain events I could be classic Henry17 clone. If I was in bars in Northwest Indiana I would put my own spin on it. Typically, Ralph Lauren Denim and Red Wing boots. But, actually, either worked in either setting. So that's really who I am arguing against: Henry17. You see the Henry17 clone is off the table. The question is that the lacked? At one point I thought that to be true. Or, someone like Drake. Does he really have it all? I mean I have so close to zero it might as well be zero chance to position myself in a position that Drake has but what are his margins of peace, joy, love, grace, et al? I am still just trying to figure it all out for myself. How to maximize my margins of peace, joy, love, grace, et al.
The bourgeois mannequin will be mocked. I think there is maybe a chance of being cooler than that. On one of Jimmie Hendrix's tracks he says, "silly businessman you can't dress like me." And, they can't. Hendrix is cooler than the bourgeois mannequin. I used to be scared to shop at Goodwill or wear $12 hoodies. I don't have to nor do I want to dress like Hendricks or Tyler Durden. But that is some TOP DOWN COOL that seems more inspiring than shackling. It's like in each niche you have to be some symbol that represents the elite part of that niche. A watch is an easy way to signal that. We still live in a society that shit like that matters. Well, I am attempting to be in social spheres where that shit doesn't matter. I am attempting to date women that don't care about that stuff. We will break apart capitalism and marketing. Or at least be aware of what is really going on and do our best to avoid it.

I agree with this fwiw.
People on a poker forum should know better than to use absolutes, e.g. "knowing this shows you care about that", which is why I qualified my comment with 'probably' and 'some correlation'.
To your point though, there's a difference between recognizing words and inserting them into a conversation ad hoc (doing the latter in this case obviously makes it significantly more likely someone cares/has cared about fashion stuff imo).

Most of his advice was actually really simple. That was just one piece. It's pretty straightforward buy the most expensive pants and shirts and belts and shoes that you can afford. If you can't afford designer than figure out how to improve your position in life. A smartly dressed man in nice dress pants, dress shirt, and shoes is an archetype that a large number of women find attractive. It also has the benefit of being appropriately dressed for any venue change.
Some other points:
- Read Kant and never lie
- Always pay for women (because getting ready for a night out is much more expensive for women)
Actually, some guy compiled a bunch of his posts into a guide:
I don't exactly know what his motives were. He never tried to sell anything. I think it was partly because he despised the PUA community and was on a mission to discredit it as well as to just help people. He was pretty secretive with his personal life but did meet up with 2p2ers and apparently was a real person.
