Are stocks beatable long-term? Where an individual can outperform the s&p 500? Or is it a fools game?

I've been researching a lot of stocks lately and how to evaluate them. By looking at the market cap, PE Ratio, average revenue and EBITDA of recent years etc. I'm under the impression that it's a beatable game if you're intelligent enough to do the research, diversify, and invest long-term, rather than day trade. And I assume my experience in poker would help. But a lot of fish sitting at the poker table online are under the impression that they can also win long-term.

And does technical analysis work?

Looking to start with: Spotify, apple, sony, paypal, amd, and maybe a Chinese e-commerce company like JD.
