In other news:
I am in the process of annihilating all of my social media. It is time. Anything that asks "is this ok?" and then gives me 600 pages of legalese that can change at any time is a hard no. Unfortunately, I already clicked yes at a lot of these places.
Most of these places claimed they were throwing everything in the incinerator once I click delete but I guess I'll never truly know.
Twitch which was bought by Amazon told me it was keeping my user information and data no matter what. I thought it is ridiculous that I am unable to nuke any account of me being there but I am no lawyer and have no money to get a lawyer.
Speaking of Amazon I will still shop there but I will be keeping it to a minimum. For example, I recently bought some vegan deodorant that is hard to find in brick and mortar. Whole Foods may have it but I never want to enter those doors ever again and they are owned by Amazon anyway. It's hard to boycott everywhere. I would be left with no where.
I am still grasping at Twitter. Jack has fallen from grace with me. Maybe I will look into his supposed open-source, decentralized project in the future but I suspect there will be sneakiness involved in some ways for profit. Like, yeah, it's cool Jack is so pro-bitcoin at this point but "BTC" in cash app is not real BTC.
I also can't seem to quit YouTube. I'll go on these runs where I get YouTube happy but most of the time I am disgusted scrolling through the options.
I think that blowing up Twitter and YouTube in the same hour might create a void in which I am stuck staring at a harrowing abyss. I am not sure what I would do with that time. I certainly do not want to try to post on here all day... That is even scarier than the abyss. Chris Hedges would tell me to read a book. He's not wrong.
I have some questions for everyone:
I am also looking to quit Google Chrome. Is Firefox 86 my best option?
I am also looking to quit Gmail.
I was reading a security guide and it was saying there is precedent of government and law enforcement trying to coerce founders of companies to hand over the keys for encrypted messages or else...
Moxie Marlinspike at Signal has said that he can not gain access to messages even if he wanted to. Is this true?
What about ProtonMail?
I likely want to have some of these better email options figured out before I erase my public gmail account.
I am feeling more private and secure these days but it can always get better. It is not like I even HODL much BTC or have anything to hide I just think it is the correct direction to go. If someone wants my BTC they basically have to break into my house and ask me questions holding a gun to my head. The probability is not zero. It is also more likely to be state sanctioned violence versus some down on their luck maniac.
Part of me wants to go even further and get comfortable with tor-vpn-tor-vpn setups. I have no plans of hacking. I just don't like surveillance states and it will only get worse.
One reason I will never hack is the story of Sabu. He made one minuscule mistake and ends up with 100 years of prison time hanging over his head. Sabu has 2 daughters that he loves very much. He was going to do everything in his power to negotiate that time down so like a bat out of hell he induced minuscule mistakes in as many of his "friends" as possible. I don't think Sabu ended up serving even 1 year in prison. The sentencing for hackers seems fucked though.
I have a hard time keeping track of the timeline of climate crisis. It's like when do I want to buy a house with access to water in the Northwest Territory, Canada? Housing in Canada seems super expensive though. Maybe wall street and sharps have already bought all of it up? There is probably no way I would want to live there anyways for the next 20 years even if I live that long. I would want to be settled there and ready to go when the shit hits the fan but no sooner. That is the kind of thing that if I was rich I could just let it sit up there and maybe fuck around on a vacation or just buy some land and leave it in my will for my nephews.
Of course, by the time 2022 rolls around and November 2024 hits we are going to be looking at a crew of adept fascists. I am not sure where to go or what to do. If I could morph into Montreal or Paris and know French that would be an easy decision but Canada and France are eventually fucked too. There will be factions of super rich technocrats and their militarized security teams and I don't know what happens to everyone else. There may also be a chance at indentured servitude on a barely colonized Mars for Dictator Musk. Fun! |

I am pleased to be using Firefox over Chrome. There are some other options but I have lost motivation to look harder after using Firefox for a couple of days. Firefox + DuckDuckGo is the better option for sure.
In regards to can institutions coerce these companies to decrypt their encrypted messages I think I just have to do my own research to figure it out. I do not understand enough about it. When Moxie says that he, himself, can not decrypt any encrypted message on Signal and that no can I believe him but I do not know why that is.
ProtonMail also says that their encrypted messages are not decode-able but also says that it will follow Geneva Convention law as well as basically do whatever the Swiss government says including giving the Swiss govt. whatever data they want. I do not know what that means.
I was messing around with Firefox yesterday and I didn't know that YouTube videos can not be watched anonymously. That is bullshit. I annihilated Twitter a couple of days ago but still don't have the heart to incinerate YouTube yet.
