Pretty colors.

If any of you lot is unemployed how many hours a day are you looking for a job?

I feel like there are only so many jobs for me out there and applying does not take too long but I know some people who are savage about the job hunt.

I don't know. This morning nothing was all that appetizing. I've got some interviews in the mix so maybe I feel higher than I should because interviews can come and go like a flash. I mean I just can't ever see myself putting in an 8 hour day on searching for a job. The more normal my sleep schedule the harder it is to be a NEET. There are only so many things to occupy the time. I came back to the Habermas but it is like I lost my place or never had a place in that book. I learned to code more. That almost seems like a waste as I don't know what my destiny will be. I wanted to learn Rust but I can't really go through the book because it is for good programmers. Even if I get good I don't see myself enjoying sitting around programming for 8-10 hours / day. I've gotten such conflicting advice regarding coding at this point it's me saying fuck off to people thinking I have to optimize every minute of my life and let me just tinker around and hack and have some fun.

Watching a replay of an Artosis SC Twitch stream instead of watching Amouranth dance on a Friday night...

Yup, those are my top choices right now on Christmas Eve. I coded into the AA meeting so this is where I am at right now.

The simulation is dropping hints to work more on my Python game.

I wonder what Amouranth's price is for a lap dance?

Software engineering to fund lap dances.... That will surely end in dates and sex a high proportion of the time........

No, I just want transaction-al lap dances. I bet every Twitch e-gal has a price. Just understand I will most likely get a boner and non-zero chance I come in my pants.

My price for a lap dance is probably $40/hr. I will probably be desecrating my dignity soon for much less. It is the way of the world. I will never utter the words that I am OBSESSED with my customers unless the overlords threaten to fire me then I'll sing it from the streets. That is the way of the world if I want to get out of destitution. At least I can have conversations like this with my fellow worker:

Me: "Wage slavery eh?"
Them: "Yeah, what a racket."
Me: "Oh look, there is a customer to obsess over. I'll see ya in a bit."
Them: "Go get 'em sport."

Only 2 posts are not in English and would require some knowledge in Python.

It's funny when I am actually working on stuff like Python it feels like I am falling behind. I should be figuring out Rust or Solidity.

Once upon a time feels like forever ago I did a deep dive on blockchain tech but that knowledge has really rusted out.

I know virtually 0 about the metaverse, digital real estate and all the crazy shit that will be going on there. I despise Zuck and don't trust him but there is no way he can have a monopoly on the metaverse(s) even if he unbelievably wisely got the name. I can understand NFTs, digital art, etc. I guess if I haven't eaten in 3 days and there is civil war potential at any minute I will be satiated by the brand new Jordans I got in the metaverse. 1 of 200 lol. Impressively rare. HODL 'til the Proud Boys realize I'm not for them despite being 250 lbs., blonde and blue and steal anything of value they can find in the house... But, not my crypto punk, 40 acres by Snoop Dogg's house, and 1 of 200 Jordans in the metaverse. As long as the Proud Boys don't kill me and I can find an internet connection I'll be alright.

Also, if they can basically create The Entertainment / Experience Machine in my lifetime does this not raise the chances that we are in a simulation?

I have a feeling these metaverse experiences and lives are going to get really good, really fast. Of course if it is like 115 degrees outside and militarized police and fascists patrolling the streets getting lost in the metaverse sounds real good. What human wants to patrol in 115 F? They'll just get drones to do it. How long until the drones take over?

I'm getting real dystopian here. I like hikes in the forest. I'd be fine to lose my life to the metaverse if I still get real life hikes in the forest sometimes. I mean shit, I spend most of my life online now a days anyways. Might as well go all the way. I was on Twitch last night and fucking xQcOw had 90,000 people watching him play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That is almost the same amount that piles into Ohio Stadium for an Ohio State football game. Amouranth was shaking that ass again for about the same amount of people as Madison Square Garden. It's really crazy to think about.

people who are employed will also have been unemployed at some point presumably and have the same experience

Try and design a program that prints the code of it's own program.

encode every computer program in binary, then design a computer program that outputs the opposite answer of what the output is (what is printed) on any given input that is a program, then run the code of that program on itself. You get the liar paradox :D

Nice.

First time I ever saw Liar Paradox I believe was in Gödel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter. Great book but I never finished it.

I think you own me in math and logic though. As I said I had fun in multivariable calculus but had no real desire to go further and I wasted most of my life on continental philosophy... What is logic?

I think 2 advantages that I have in learning to code is that I have the ability to zone in for hours sitting alone at a computer and that I don't have a life. As far as intelligence I'm probably no smarter than most programmers. It really is a discipline that one ends up learning alone unless I decide to go to a community college or boot camp.

But, perhaps I should not challenge the median geeks ability to sit in front of their computer and not have a life.

Stroggoz   New Zealand. Dec 28 2021 08:26. Posts 5329

I have that book on my shelf and havn't read a single page. Don't think i'll ever have the time for it. But yeah there are quite a few greek philosophical problems that come up in theoretical computer science and logic.

I have to teach myself python soon and I find it dull and boring. If you have any good resources, share them.

That's a shame, multivariable calc is basically the last course you do before studying real math; (epsilon-delta proofs!). Pick up a copy of Terrance Tao's Analysis volume 1 and try to get through chapter 1 (do the appendix first, it's crucial), if you wanna taste of real math.

According to Plato you can't be a good philosopher king unless you spend all of your 20's studying math, so I guess that was the greek equivalent of having no life back then. Sounds awesome to me tbh...I wasted my 20's playing poker.

Re: Learning Python

I don't know if I am the best person to ask. I'm still early and I am broke so can't afford anything fancy. The smartest person I know regarding Python learned by going through a book called Learning Python 3 The Hard Way by Zed Shaw and then taking a boot camp course in Data Science. I am about 1 / 3 the way through the book. It's fun to learn new things and get everything to print but yeah it's basically just being meticulous and then some of the learning is just brute memorization. I don't think I want to be a Data Scientist though so something like Rust would be better as I am more interested in blockchain tech. Reading the Rust manual is tricky because they assume you are already a good programmer.

My brother is also a Data Scientist. He learned Python in university because he was required to do things Excel could no longer do (Theoretical Nuclear Physics) so just kind of learned it out of necessity. He had no suggestions for me because it was either learn Python or fail out of his PhD program.

So, yeah, it can be a bit dull but as you learn more it gets more fun and there is something rewarding about getting a large, complicated .py file to print.

I don't know how good NZ community colleges are. I know there is some course work in the states that is very good regarding programming. Boot camps seem to be a San Francisco area thing but my one friend swears by them. University computer science programs here are allegedly pretty shitty in regards to programming. You could spend $70,000 / yr and not be proficient in any language. Boot camps I think are three months or 6 months or whatever months, way less money, and many of them have close to 100% of the people place at a job. I've never tried the online courses.

Regardless, to me, it seems like the only real way to learn Python is to sit at a computer for blocks of time alone and also get good at using Google irt Python.

I'm too old for real math. I am almost 40. I am gearing up to study Aristotle in my 40s.

Math is for like age 2 to 20 and continuing into 20s. I don't know what 30s are for. I'm almost done with them oops.

I don't even like Plato that much but I think that assessment is correct.

we don't have community colleges lol. I have to learn it for my math phd; but it shouldn't be too hard since I've already studied a lot of theoretical comp sci in math and we had to write algorithms with for loops/while loops ect. I taught myself computational geometry for my undergrad thesis as well which involved learning a lot of data structures. Thanks for the suggestions.

Also $70,000 is insane. I'd just take 2-3 classes, each one costs about $700 US.

All universities are not that expensive. A brother of a friend who coincidentally just went on a 38 win streak on Jeopardy is getting a Comp. Sci. Phd at Yale. Yale undergrad is $70k / yr and you won't learn how to code there. Oberlin, Columbia, Smith College (near UMASS - Amherst), there's tons of them at $50,000+ and you probably can't learn programming at any of them. It changes for PhDs but most PhDs I've known are really scraping by money wise. They get coerced into teaching and TA'ing as much as possible. Ramen noodles and spaghetti are on the menu.

My university was a state university and I got some scholarships. Tuition was less than $10,000 / yr. although food, room, and board was fucking stupid.

Are you talking about NZ course costing about $700 US?

That's ideal if you can pull it off. General Education Courses (GECs) are valuable in a broad university educational setting for young minds but some of those courses are trash and very expensive in USA. A professor there told me that being an honors student there was not worth it but honors got first pick of classes. That's super valuable at a school of 40,000 undergraduate students and a tenuous class picking system.

That would be the shit if each class was like itemized out at a fair price and we could pick any number of classes. My senior year I was taking 5 classes / quarter to graduate in 4 years and it was more about gaming the classes / system than actually learning.

I remember maybe the most shameful class. I had to take an Economics class. 500 student lecture hall. Professor read directly from power point slides. Teaching assistant was Chinese and barely, I mean barely spoke English.

Then, I found out from Stroggoz that most economics taught in universities is bullocks. It would still be nice to get that money and time back somehow. I stopped going to class and read the power point slides the professor put online but still that is a fucking sham.
