Honestly if u save 7k a year and Invest it well, u be okay when ur 65-70. You won’t live a ballin lifestyle but it won’t be a shitty life though.

I would buy 2.5k in gold
2.5k in silver
2k maybe crypto maybe Tesla

"With the 100% Poker Welcome Bonus at Ignition, you'll receive up to $1,000 in bonus cash after you make your first deposit; we'll match that deposit dollar-for-dollar, then you'll have 30 days to play poker and collect your bonus money. Every raked hand of cash poker you play will add to your bonus."

This is rather ambiguous.

I would probably take $20-30 / hr at this point. I don't think there is opportunity cost. It's not like I am passing up some job as a software engineer or any engineer to quit college for poker. In high school people just thought I'd end up with some job that would make $100k or whatever and poker was just like WHAT?!?!?! But, partly because of poker and partly because I didn't like academia I cruised through a History degree. Which I didn't think about it back then but I should have snap called poker as what I would focus on 100% as soon as I decided not to be a lawyer or a teacher. The expected value of a history degree on it's own is pretty shitty and I was playing poker all the time so I wasn't doing any research or getting close to any professors or getting any references, etc.

Now, I am in a similar position except my current prospects are even worse. Work retail or whatever other shitty job at $15-20/hr.

2ptbb/100 @ 200 NL @ 400 hands/hr is $32/hr. That's pretty good imo.

There's no law school in my future. In fact I don't see any education in my future. It's shit employment and shit training basically. Maybe my mind isn't thinking enough or thinking outside the box or creatively but poker could potentially be an out. My brother has been saying this for years.

Maybe I guess Vancouver is an expensive city so wages are higher I guess. I’m not sure about other markets

If I was gonna make money from poker, I would run a bot farm. I break their tos cuz I don’t really like the sites greed anyways. If I’m taking money from professional, too bad everything is slowly getting AI driven. An online poker players job isn’t that special. Yea rikd imo if u play poker, might lead to more stress cuz of swings. I feel way happier now that I don’t grind. I think u just need to learn to find cost saving areas. Cuz 31k is a lot. What do u spend money on?

$31k is not that much. It's not abject poverty but I still have to be there 40 hours/week. I spend too much eating out and I need to figure out that qbittorrent thing that Loco posted. I was spending a lot on music equipment but that project is complete besides getting an acoustic guitar. I spend money on my guitar lessons. I buy video games on my switch. I was signed up to a lot of media or just random shit like photo shop. Most of it I signed up when I was manic and then it's hard to get rid of. I have a web domain that I have never used and $200+ just gets taking out of my AMEX because I forget I have it. Lot's of more dumb stuff probably.

I remember there was a ring of bots colluding early 2010s in PLO. Would be like 4 at a table. Card deletion in PLO would be HUGE. My friend was onto it and sent PokerStars all the info. It took Stars like 6-7 months to do anything. My friend was on life tilt and quit poker. He was easily top 5 in the world at HU NLHE at one point. I can't imagine how bad things are now which is a reason not to play poker.

Yea maybe u can play poker on the side, n when u have vacation n a decent bankroll u can give it a shot. Maybe it works out maybe it doesn’t.

There is no chance in hell I am buying gold or silver.

Crypto maybe. Tesla maybe.

But, honestly, I am just shipping money into the 401k and that is it. Maybe, I stop shipping it because they don't match it where I work and then I put it in Vanguard index funds.

Yeah, but you don't work in retail hell. Of course the investments matter.

Who wouldn't just want investments that they can live off of?

31k is not ballin but it’s comfortable. U just spend money on random and maybe useless things. Gotta learn to resist the urge to buy n save n invest n let ur money work 4 u

Yea I understand to get out of that hole you must save. Gotta start somewhere. If I were in ur shoes, I would save as much as I can so I get out of that job. Bruh I use to grind poker a lot n saved enough. I put in the work in the past so I can chill now.
So if you want to chill in the near future gotta spend the least amount possible n save n invest as much as you can.

Anyways, Ignition is intriguing. I have to figure out the actual terms of what the Bonus is. I really don't know how many hands I feel like playing in a month or how many hands I can reasonably play when I am tired after work. I don't really feel like dropping a paycheck on there with my credit card either. I certainly can't afford to drop $5k+ on a solver setup. Maybe I just drop $150 like my first deposit on PokerStars and run the damn thing up. That feels like a slight waste of time but there is probably a compromise somewhere in between grinding out 10 NL with $150 and dropping a paycheck worth in there to play 100 NL.

i don't know where rikd said it but he said he feels bad because he can't spend $10k at club night or something

i just wanted to say you were just as much of a sucker then as now, just one with loose cash

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

But, really I just wanted some answers about Ignition.

Why can it operate in USA?

Is it gonna get DOJ'd?

How many hands of 25 NL would I have to play to clear the bonus?

I'm pretty sure there's a couple sites that accepts US players. Bovada/ignition comes to mind. Playing on these sites will at least allow you to not move right off the bat. Seems like you will benefit having your support base around you as opposed to a new city + back to the lonely existence of online grinding.
On the poker front, maybe keep your initial investment minimal. Lots of info available just via RIO that will likely help you more than running your own sims at this point. If you enjoy online poker still, maybe then look into investing capital in hardware or whatever else.

Seems this guy agrees with hiems the wise.
