You really like playing out doomsday scenarios that just won't occur. The debt problem isn't that big a deal it's just being blown out of proportion, our inflation rate is hovering in the 3-5 range which is safe and actually we had deflation like .85% deflation last year.

Taxes were a shit ton higher in general but there also was a large tax bracket difference, the lowest in the 1950s was 20% tax rate, the highest was 91% (truman actually lowered it from 94 to 91 in 1946). Contrast to today where the lowest is 10% and the highest is 35%. Also there were a ton more brackets which is what is greatly needed today. In 2011 there are only 6 tax brackets, in 1954 there were 24 tax brackets. This allowed taxes to be more evenly spread out in wealth. It makes zero sense that Bill Gates makes like 2 billion in a year and pays the same amount of income tax that a person making $400k/yr pays. Nevermind all the brackets that need to be put inbetween 0 dollars and the 400k, there should be a ton more between 400k and a billion.
This gave the government tons of money to spend to build things like the interstate highway system, while also paying off our massive debts.
Similar high inflation rates were between 46 and 51. Both times the American economy rebounded and did just fine.
You used Bill Gates so I'm gonna use Bill Gates also. if you tax Bill's 2 billion at 94% he's still bringing in $120mil/year. Utility wise that's more than enough to basically do whatever you want in this world. From that point of view it makes a lot of sense. Hire a bunch of economists and philosophers to come up w/ a very elaborate taxing plan. fuck 6 or 24 brackets. i'm talking 100+.
That brings up some questions though. 94% is pretty serious business. regardless of what Bill pulls in a year that is A LOT of forced labor. On one hand the US govt. provided security and the opportunity for him to get to this point on the other hand the US govt. has made a lot of laws and tax law that coerces everyone to stay here and give them money.

Theres an economist Jagdish Baghwati the argued in 2007 in his defense of globalization book that extreme jnequality is better than normal inequality because people like bill gates give back more. I remember reading that 10 years ago now and thinking, wow, what a delusional cunt. But now that I think about it more it seems like a straight contradiction because if it were true then there wouldn't be extreme inequality anymore.

Yeah I considered all that. But you also have to consider rhe fact that he did not discuss any auxiliary assumptions at all. Dont think they discussed absolute vs percentages, or 100 billiionare to billionaure ratio.
Its also a very naive assumption to make there but yeah technically they can prevent a contradiction by assuming multi billionaires are all more generous than millionares or billionaires in percentage terms not just absolute terms. Surely not backed up by empirical evidence but that certainly wont stop them!

Most economists starting paying attention to inequality after 2008 a great deal more. It's now a common belief that inequality slows economic growth. Europe still exploits the rest of the world's resources rather than the other way around.
If the whole world copied Norway then we would likely speed up environmental collapse. Even though its one of the better performing rich countries in that area, it still falls short. If countries like India wanted to copy Norways model they would have to do it in a very minimalistic way. Things like gender equality are regarded as the best thing for the environment because of population control. That's one easy area to copy.
There's a contradiction that left wing degrowthers ignore when they point out rich people produce way more emissions and therefore we should equalize society. And that is that it would boost economic growth, which is largely tied to environmental collapse. Now ofc they might also think growth and emissions can be decoupled (I my view they can), but that isn't bought into the argument.
There are all sorts of auxiliary assumptions that are underlying these arguments and need to be considered

Well, actually, one of my best friends is a painter, art history expert, teacher so that helps but he is in a different state.

I am a pussy. I post an unfinished piece with some promise to get attention and validation. Pussy behavior. Now I am frozen because to finish it will take work and guts. It is like in any work. If the detail increases the tendency is to want perfect and perfect takes a lot of hard work. Maybe I don't want to mix another purple, figure out the hair, get the lighting right on the face and the body, etc. It's the same with Ableton Live 11.
Whatever, it is clear the answer is people. My therapist asked me the other day what am I looking forward to in the future. I had nothing to say. But, then, day in and day out I don't go down to the local AA meeting. Maybe because I have been to those AA meetings and was unsatisfied. This has been a problem for almost 8 years. I get stuck in my loner ways but I am not brewing anything beautiful. It's more exceptional if I was writing The World as Will and Representation. Instead I am writing this whiny blog post and I never know if it is doing any good which it probably isn't since I would know if it were doing good. I suppose I keep my sanity somewhat as I am trapped in this house not by any barriers but my own reclusivity.

Things like sprawling highways, mass consumerism and such are not something to be envious of. Ofc the leaders in those countries think it is sadly. When I drew it in chalk it looked quite sexy and feminine. I think painting it the head is too large. The cheek bones are too strong and the jaw and chin are massive. The neck is too big also. The shoulders are probably about right. The model was very skinny. This is why I need a painting coach to tell me what happened. I'm not happy with the shading either although I am happy with the quality of purples I was mixing. Purples are the most difficult to mix.

He was a "teaching assistant".
Pretty much anyone with a degree can do that. There's nothing wrong with being a TA though. Most TA are very bright people. So he basically is on the same level of formal education as AOC. They have completely opposite views. That tells me that humility is what's required to be a good economist.

Pretty much anyone with a degree can do that. There's nothing wrong with being a TA though. Most TA are very bright people. So he basically is on the same level of formal education as AOC. They have completely opposite views. That tells me that humility is what's required to be a good economist.

I am not going to lie. I am bored as fuck. This site is dead as fuck. Not a good combo. I wrote quite a bit this morning but am just a bit blocked this evening. It feels like since I wrote some this morning I can just call in the day but a lot of the time my best writing comes at night before I go to sleep. I thinking I am partially blocking myself as I feel like being lazy but it's more than that. The book is going into a direction I'm not sure I like and I am having struggles bringing it back and keeping it exciting. Fresh, new, provacative nigga. I might have to make some drastic moves.... I don't know. Shit.

I was listening to an interview last night with Rick Rubin interviewing Trent Reznor. It was from 7 months ago. I loved it but one thing became clear. I will never make music like Trent Reznor. He has played the piano since age 5 and got to concert pianist level good. He was also fascinated with synthesizers and drum machines. He wanted to be a professional musician / rock star since age 13 or so. I suppose I can make my own music on an Ableton Live 11 which would be my point of view. I can play some fun stuff on the guitar. Figured out how to play Link Wray - Rumble just this morning. But, I'm not composing any music and not even thinking about it. Well, I guess I just did think about it but I am not actively composing music. I was happy composing music albeit a bit frustrated at times. I am just obsessed with music. It's frustrating to not make it as well as others.

I finally figured out my Boss OS-2 pedal. It only took over a year and a YouTube video. Finally, getting some cool tones out of it. I wanted to try and re-create some NIN guitars. Upon some research I find that that is virtually impossible. For The Downward Spiral there was a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Stratocaster in the studio but the problem is he would record them into different devices and distort them through those means. So, unless you have all this antiquated stuff and happened to distort something similar is basically impossible.
Another interesting note is that on The Downward Spiral Tour NIN destroyed $160,000 worth of Gibson Les Paul Guitars. Damn shame man. I know it's fun to destroy shit and it's probably entertaining for the fans but the Gibson Les Paul is a work of art. If I was hammered and all coked up and one of the biggest fucking rockstars at the time I can't say I wouldn't be ecstatic to destroy some art too.
Anways, I have to figure out a way to learn from these masters and not compare myself to any artist ever.

I saw Tiesto and Armin Van Burren too. I was on a lot of drugs for both. I never thought I would be that guy. On a ton of drugs at an EDM show but that could be one of the pinnacles of life maybe? With enough nihilism and boredom it could be.
Creamfields in Buenos Aires is an amazing festival too. Maybe not up to bat with EDC and Tomorrowland but the spirit is there.

I'm back on that Ableton Live 11. It's been fun composing. I'm crap but it's fun. Finally, got my USB interface and mic all set up. I couldn't get my guitar set up right but that's ok. The more I look into it I rather get the tone I want from the amp and pedals and play with 0 latency. Well, that is not fully true. I could always play the guitar clean into the mic and distort it on my computer with a plug-in. At least I think I can do that. I would have to find the right plug-in. Which I don't know any plug-ins. Ableton is A LOT at the start. I can't watch enough YouTube videos.
The only reason I want a job is so I don't go broke and I can buy music equipment.
I have to figure out what I want to do. Ableton composition is composition from the point of view of the piano (synthesizer, MIDI controller, etc.)
Electric guitar is probably my favorite instrument to play but I would also like to play bass and piano. So, what level of guitar do I get to before starting piano or bass?
Another concern is that a lot of the plug ins on Ableton are pretty expensive. It's like what is my next move?

I havn't released it publicly actually, so its quite buggy if someone downloads it. I just put a version on the website to see if the download link works. Its not even in open beta yet, but will update it continuously and put a new version up there soon. But basically the tool is supposed to combine various methods in data science to make a way of labeling huge amounts of data very quickly, although with some inaccuracy. That's important because models in machine learning require labelled data to be trained on, and need increasingly larger datasets for them to be good.
It's been a complete bitch to make. Initially the program took 2 weeks to make but I kept adding more and more shit to it.
Now i'm living the dream job of debugging code 12 hours a day and going on LP during compiling times.

I don't know if anything can actually help me. I'm patched together. The music isn't always working. I don't know what to do. Coveting bomber jackets is stupid. Even though it seems like a functional jacket for $60 at surplus stores I'd feel stupid wearing a military jacket when I have nothing to do with the military. I also live in the South. It is also about to be Spring. <50 F days are mostly gone. Not as stupid as a $47,000 bomber jacket (by Raf Simons). I am like a cat chasing a shiny ball. It cycles viciously. When I don't have a shiny ball I come here and complain. Life is absurd. That is for sure. And I don't always picture Sysyphus with a smile on his face. That is stupid. Although maybe there are some humans somewhere that could emulate such ridiculousness.

There are 6 books. The first 2 movies are more or less the 1st book.
I read the 1st book and thought it was great. I read it before the movies. After watching the movies I am motivated to read the 2nd book Dune Messiah. It seems like 100% of people I have talked to IRL do not like the books after the 1st one as much. I don't really know what to think about that.
Anytime I come across an artist like Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) and I was there 15 years ago... I recently "re-discovered" him on a deeper level. I spend a lot of my time attempting to create music from a white canvas. Listening to Bon Iver greatly inspires me yet at the same time I feel a bit sad and lost that I will not and should not have that voice and point of view. I want to copy and steal. I want a bigger penis. It knocks me off course a bit.

Loco is rarely coming back and not at your command. I wish that I could have a magic wand that I could wave when I am blue that Loco would come in and bring some The Man Who Sleeps / Jason Molina / Knut Hamsun level art to the table but that is unreasonable. So, I needed a new battery for my car and they fixed the air conditioning. Not cheap. But they wanted to replace all the tires and the brakes. Yikes. It's official, I badly need employment now. I looked at hundreds of effective altruism jobs and I think I won't do that again. Pretty big waste of time. I should just bite the bullet and work for Target or something like that and I know it will be bad but I can pay for these brakes and tires and eventually buy a bike, and some guitar pedals (oops), some new clothes that aren't raggedy and/or do not have holes in them. Bike-wise I don't need anything crazy. I am going to try to find a single speed on craigslist when I have the money. Biking around the neighborhood is pretty flat. I live in low-country swamps and marshes. It is not hilly at all. Biggest hill on the island is the connector to the beach. I won't go on about guitar pedals but my next one will be a simple delay pedal. I'll let my guitar teacher pick it out he has some hookups. I also think Loco was slightly off on the amp I got. Yeah, it has a lot of effects that come with the amp but they aren't as good as just getting a peddle. That goes for overdrive, distortion, reverb, delay, tremolo, etc. He was definitely right on it being stupid to get a wah pedal. My wah pedal (Crybaby) is way better than my amp wah but I simply never use it and basically never will use it except for like novelty bull shit.
Anyways, I look forward to having some money to buy new clothes. Like I said though my go to spot Bread and Boxers does not sell to the USA anymore meaning I have to find a new t-shirt, boxer briefs, socks, etc. A sock I am wearing right now has a hole in it and that is not great. No one really reads this blog and not this far in so I won't ask for suggestions but if anyone has read this far I would like suggestions.

I would have to be based in Washington DC, NYC, or San Fran and I don't think I am really qualified for most of the remote positions. There was one that caught my eye about s-risks and minimizing suffering in general. I might apply to that one. There was a posting about shrimp in SE Asia. I was like shrimp really? But they do have a point it's billions of shrimp suffering. I just don't think that really compares to s-risks. I also found a local non-profit I am probably going to look into but they aren't hiring anyone at this time. So, there is some excitment that I could be working on suffering or a non-profit. It seems better than working at Target. I don't really know though. Perceptions are a mother fucker.

I am into Alan Wake 2. About 4 hours into the game and enjoying it.
4 hours training MMA is >>> than 4 hours playing a video game most likely but I am old. BJJ especially you just get dinged up a bunch it's hard to keep going and I think it's even harder to break through into not getting destroyed by blue belts all the time. That's what the advanced lessons were like. I didn't even have a chance against a good blue belt. No major injuries but it's like how much time off do you take for a sprained thumb or pulled groin, stuff like that and at 30+ now 40+ it's even worse. I have a lot of respect for purple, brown, black belts.

MMA training no good anymore. I'm too old. I do a program called Westside for washed up meatheads. It may not get as good of gains as Greyskull but imo it's better suited for me. I have a lot of respect for purple, brown, black belts.

Although, training MMA would be good, even if you don't plan to be a pro fighter. You will be able to state in good shape, and also meet many new people who could potentially turn into good friends, which might help you with your self-isolation problem.

I don't really follow UFC anymore. I am kind of out of it. Beating the vig would likely take too much work for not enough pay out.

I don't think my goal is to be my own boss anymore. That can actually be a shit ton of work. Poker I was my own boss and that is a little different than most entreprenurial endeavors I think? I could outsource most things and that was smart. Travelling is cool but I think I played my best poker in a quiet, isolated desktop / monitor setup. It sucks not having friends near by though.

I would be happy with less than 40k except that I know how to spend money way better than other people, so I should actually get paid like $40k an hour because I know how to spend it better than other people that earn that kind of money.

I read another Byung-Chul Han (The Crisis of Narration) which instilled in me that I should no longer post here or "post" anywhere or engage in Twitter. He is right but I am likely addicted. There is no tree in my city to sing and tell stories under though so we are all kind of fucked.

MMA training no good anymore. I'm too old. I do a program called Westside for washed up meatheads. It may not get as good of gains as Greyskull but imo it's better suited for me. China may slightly intrigue me but not enough to learn Mandarin. Anecdotal evidence I have no desire to travel there.

My Korean is non-existant. Sure, I'd love to learn Korean but it's not like the Matrix where I can just download Korean in 10 sec. and be fluent. I'll probably never go to South Korea. I would love to read The Burnout Society in Byung-Chul Han's mother tongue but he wrote it in German. I spent 6 years studying German and now my German is terrible. I think once people hit 40 they are doomed in languages unless they really have a reason to thrive with a new language. I mean I was really good at German. I got an A+ in my last course in uni. Maybe if I moved to Berlin and studied German I could really pick it up like I did with Spanish in Buenos Aires but now my Spanish is shit too.
then go on disability like me while working for 2nd income. In Canada I can make up to 15k a year and on pwd which is like 35k not bad since like champ said We know how to allocate my money wisely so 35k can go a long way

Been living in China the past ~4.5 years and pretty much agree. Societal/institutional issues aside, it's pretty comfortable here as a random expat. That said I'm not sure it's the place Rik will find his fulfillment.
I am not sure if I find fullfullment anywhere. It's the kind of thing where if I can be fullfilled where I am currently at maybe I have a chance somewhere else. I can run but I have to bring myself kind of thing.

I don’t know about u guys but I’m pretty happy now but was a long struggle to get to where I am today. I attain fullfillment for periods of time until it's gone. I don't think it is the type of thing that I struggle for 5-10 years and then I reach a point of enlightenment.

We could probably commiserate and greive over the loss of Loco. Anytime I eat cake and drink tea I think of Death Cafes and inherently think of Loco. I don't know what stage I'm in. Probably acceptance but the way greif works is that it can bounce back into any other stage at any time. I think Death Cafes are a great idea. I mostly just take solitary walks through graveyards / cemeteries.
