i dont it makes me feel dirty to see people get ripped off so badly and its really sad how much theyre willing to give up just to get the money right then.
theyre usually giving up like 70% equity on their items just to get cash now.

i dont think they get ripped off and im not even of "dog eats dog" mentality but consider the pawn shop has to store and actually sell that shit and they need a profit margin, and sometimes they lose money on items that do not sell, stolen items etc if they were ripping people he could have easily just gave that woman 2k for that faberge spider.
Obviously you will get more money in auctions they even tell that to their customers, but they need to pay way below the actual price so they cover allt he operational costs and show a profit.

Well time value of money etc applies. I doubt it is anywhere near 70% most of the time. I have seen some of the stuff they have bought in season 1 and it is still in the shop during season 3. I really wish they would put up what the items eventually sold for, if nothing else I want to know what happened with the hot air balloon.
If you really want to see people getting taken for a ride watch Hardcore Pawn. The scummiest bunch of people ever and how I traditionally envision pawn brokers. The Pawn Stars show won an industry award "In 2010 Rick Harrison and the staff of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop were awarded the Pawnbroker of the Year Award by the National Pawnbroker's Association for bringing the industry greater recognition and a better image with the TV show." But Hardcore Pawn have set that image back a thousand years, can be hilarious though if you don't mind feeling guilty/disgusted.

I have a feeling if there werent cameras present it would have gone like this:
Rick: So how much do you want for it?
Woman: Urrrm $2000?
Rick: Ill give you $1500 tops
Woman: Ok
Rick: Chumlee, go do the paperwork

How funny a joke is perceived as depends on a lot of factors, including timing, situation, etc.
What sucks for you though is that a big factor is the popularity of the person telling the joke.
